So I've been on pred. since last thursday and I've been sleeping less and less at night. I'm on 40mg, which I take in the morning. Would that dosage really affect me so much at 11pm so I'm not able to sleep? I was seriously up all last night staring at the ceiling.

Are you taking 3 pills of Entocort plus 40 mg prednisone? Or did your GI switch you from Entocort to pred?

I'm off the Entocort while I'm on the prednisone.

I am wide awake at night on Prednisone -- and was both at 60 and 40mg. Now, at 20mg still have trouble falling asleep before 12 or 1 am, but am not waking up as early as I was. So, either the lower dose or adjusting to the medicine helps.

Hi Jenn I got up out of bed when I couldn't sleep so not sure how you can stay in bed that long. Ieither went on the compuier or watched TV. Thank goodness it got better as I tapered down because it does get to a person a little. I did nap in the day when I was tired. I don't know how a person would get threw a work day like that. Have you tried getting up for awhile to see if it would help you? How much longer will you be on 40 ? lol gail

I had to get on sleep aids or i'm up all night, like I am now.
I don't like taking them cos I get sleepy when I first wake up and i'm never like that! :(

Pred does keep people up at night, and well that's one of the joys of it. *sigh*

You gotta take the pred in the AM (unless told otherwise), your body usually makes its own "steroids" after waking I was told by my GI doc, and taking it before bed will mess it all up as your body is using pills now to give that. It blows!

Thanks everyone! Yes, I take the 40mg in the morning. I don't want to be on more meds, so I was trying to hold off on the sleep meds...this whole thing blows!

I have experienced the same problems while on pred.  I do take Tylenol PM.  It doesn't seem to have lasting effects and it helps with my back pain.  My GI said it is fine to take.

Diagnosed CD 10/9/07.  Meds: Lialda 2.4gm, Predisone 40mg (decreased down to 20mg), Effexor XR 75 mg

I am now only on 5mg and I am still up half the night, I am afraid to keep on taking the Temazepam becasue of getting addicted to them, and actually they dont work much anymore for me anyway now!! its a real pain and I am so fed up of not sleeping. I pray for a good nights sleep every night but it never happens.

yes,it would effect you.i haven't been on prednisone for a while now,but i remember being tired during the day with little energy, and being wide awake and restless at night.i would usually stay up watching movies or t.v.unfortunantly i don't know how to fix it.i would also like to warn you about prednisone.i was on different doses at different times, but the last time i was on it,i was on it for some time.i caution you on the side effects of prednisone.your face wil swell so it looks as round as a basket ball.you'll have cravings for foods at all times of the day and night.you'll be restless and tired and energized and anxious.there are a few other things that i would like to share with you that are more personal but important.if you would like to talk to me and learn these, please reply.please reply.being a female i think you'll want to know these things.

I was on pred for almost a year- up as high as 60 mg with really slow tapering. I had to go an Ativan to sleep and believe I am now physiologically dependent on it. I went off the pred at the end of September and while I have been able to cut the amount of Ativan in half, I still need it to fall asleep. I know the pred stays in your body for months after you go off it, so i am hoping to be able to wean myself off the ativan in a few months. Without sleep, all of the CD symptoms become so much worse :(

Yeah, the insomnia sucks! But the prednisone stopped the bleeding a diarrhea, so I can at least work and function. I haven't tried sleeping pills yet, but I sure am tempted! Good luck!

I am interested in the response from drs. on prednisone. i was on the p.o, taken off by doctor, and replaced with medrol inj. which is causing severe mood problems from the steriod, so the doc. is taking me off this also, until absolutely needed again. currently on Humaria. and other meds.
