Ok so my girlfriend found out she had crohn's about five years ago or so she has had part of her intestens removed, been on steroids and now she is taking asocort (i think its called) and alot of immodium to keep poo from exploding out her butt. lately she has been having alot of pain and bloating, she can't eat because it hurts too much and she's got some pain in her shoulder (i don't know if one has to do with the other but i figure it's worth throwing out there) and i think she should go to the doctor but she doesn't want to, it's been going on now for about a week and it's got me kinda worried. am i over reacting or should i drag her in to the doctor?

Drag her away if that's possible...any changes warrents going back to the GI to make sure there isn't something more serious going on...get her some good probiotics, they help with many crohns symptoms, bloating, gas and even with frequency, a good one that I take is called Primadophilus Reuteri made by natures way, it'll be in a healthfood store fridge as it must be kept cold at all times...only one/day is needed and it has guaranteed intestinal release, it also aids with lactose intolerance (as for many of us we have that issue too but it often isn't realized because symptoms of lactose intolerance mimic CD) aids with vaginal health (incase she tends to get yeast infections, if not it's still an added precaution for vaginal health anyways), she needs to take it everyday indefinintely even if she's in remission to help keep the healthy bacteria in check...her med that she's taking is either asacol or entocort that you're referring to.

My bum is broken....there's a big crack down the middle of it!  LOL  :)

I might just tell her where going to disneyland or something to get her in the car... so is that Primadophilus Reuteri something she "should" take or something that she will need to take? because she's not a big fan of taking her pills as it is but i think i can get her to take it if it's not a permanant thing. and now that you mention it she has always had soy milk in the fridge...i never really thought about it before, i thought she just liked it (i'm a little slow) i just read somthing about stem cell transplants to make cd go into remition and even go away for good. do you know anything about that? it sounds like it could be a darn good idea

I would drag her to the doc, it's best for the doc to know what's going on.

I hate to say this but she has to understand pills are going to be a part of her life if she wants to feel better.
If not her CD will worsen with time and it'll be worse than ever sadly. There may be a time where she can get off it, but it's needed to retain remission in majority of people.

Stem cell transplants don't happen in the US from what I know, and in Canada (where i'm from) they don't inject that into anyone yet, I believe you have to go to China or something and it cost $$$$, but I never heard anything about it for CD. I'd love to know more about that tho, at times my CD drives me insane (i'm sure i'm not alone.. lol)
