Hi all,

errrrm, kinda gross but freaked myself out by looking at the past posts so wanted to check. confused

Recently I have found that my stool is (not always but often) a greyish light greeny colour and stranger the consistency is clay like - a bit like after a Barium FT (but not as white or floaty).

I read the posts on Gall Bladder relationship however I have no pain...

Other potentially pertinent info is that I have been trying to follow the SCD diet for the last 3 months.

Any help greatly appreciated. So nice to be able to be frank with people who understand and won't be grossed out!

Thanks

A

Have you had your liver enzymes checked recently, by any chance?

I had bloods done a couple of months ago when i went in for my GI clinic. Not sure of teh results I just wanted to know my CRP as it was the first one since i came off the roids.

p.s. Hust spoke to the nurse and she didn't seem to concerned, said to monitor it. Has anyone taken a photo of their BM to show the doc because I really suck at explaining what I mean....

Right, so I trust my docs etc but.... I'm quite concerned with what I read here and on other sites like about a grey stool seems to be a cause for concern + the odd consistency is well described as greasy (I was going with clay like). So it fits liver problems a known side effect of 5ASA and i'm on Pentasa.

The GI nurses just said oh thats strange give us a call in a couple of weeks if its still happening. Now i'm sure that is the best approach but wouldn't it be better to do some bloods or am I being self absorbed? I didn't mention that "I had seen on the internet that" as I think this makes me look like a hpercondriact....

Hate being sick

Are 5-ASA drugs connected to liver problems????? I thought it was kidney function they monitor while on Pentasa and the like. The reason for my concern is that I had a complete metabolic panel done in the summer when I had my bone marrow exam. I just got a copy of the lab report and noticed that my liver enzymes (ALT and AST) are just starting to climb out of the normal range. I have taken statins on and off since 2001 and recently changed (last Dec) from lipitor to generic simvastatin. My LFT's have never been more than mid range of normal. My total bilirubin has been 1.0 (which is the upper limit of normal) for a few years. No one has ever commented on it.

I plan to bring this up at my yearly check with my primary care in Dec. I'm wondering if a slight elevation like this is cause of alarm and NOW I am wondering if pentasa has anything to do with it. I started pentasa in May.

I looked it up- yes, pentasa can cause elevated liver enzymes. Great. It can also rarely cause a low white count and coincidentally mine dropped even lower than it normally is after I started taking it.

Pale or clay colored stools. Stools that appear pale or look like clay could be the result of lack of bile salt (which gives stool a brownish color), antacids, barium from recent barium enema test, or hepatitis.
