Normally I don't mind having really bad gas (it impresses my son and grosses out my wife).  But lately even I can't stand it.
Anybody else have gas bad enough to stop a charging rhino?  What gives?  I had resection surgery about a year ago and everything has been relatively quiet until recently.
I haven't approached my GI with it, b/c I'm not sure if it's even a problem or maybe it's just something I'm eating.
I remain...

You know....I am glad I have those sickly smelling expellations. Especially since you seem to be of the same school of thought as my husband....let's make the wife suffer for the stench!

I go through cycles where I don't stink so much and days where we have to redecorate after the paint is done pealing. My guess is one year post surgery, your body is getting back into routines that it skipped for a while. I also found diet makes a big difference...any thing that doesn't stick around to get digested seems to cause gas even after it leaves.

Now if you pull the sheet over your wife's head...I will personally come over and help her beat you with a dead, rotting skunk! :-)

I had a resection about a year ago too. The odor is awful. I really feel bad when I'm at work. Thank goodness I'm in the farthest office and nobody has noticed yet. I worry that one day it will happen when I have a client in my office. nono My son has been ribbing me about it. He says it's payback time for all the times I got after him.

I did ask my doctor about it, and he said it could be because of bacteria build up. Put me on a probiotic. I didn't notice much help so I'm going to try another brand.

Probiotics make the gas worse for me?

I'm in a stiff competition with the dog know it's getting bad when it smells worse than a dog fart!

My husband says "girls" aren't suppose to do that!

And I might add...I'm sooo very proud when mine doesn't stink! Sure sign of less bacteria!

Son claims Walmart cleans their bathrooms every time they know I'm in the store to keep me from going into their facilities! Don't ask....another story, another time!

I'm in the same rift as you, I get bad gas like no tomorrow and it goes on and on.
Certain foods can cause it as they're not digesting well and head str8 to your colon and sit and make all the gas there (for hours!)
That's wat I was told what happens.

You can try probiotics, remember to take them 15min before your meal it's best from what I was told by my doc.
In the meantime, find the foods that trigger it if you can.

Ohh and I've never had an surgery yet, so I guess it'll be worse if I get that one day? Oh dear.. lol

I too have noticed certian foods make it worse. maybe something is not as easily digestable.

Probiotics taken 1/2 hr to 1 hr after 1 cup of Aloe Vera Juice will solve the gas problems. It acts a bit like an antibiotic. You see, it (gas) has to escape somehow and the aloe vera juice will rid your body of it really fast. In my experience, aloe vera juice also has the ability to stop the bleeding. If you take more than 1 cup a day, prepare to go to the potty...alot. It tends to make me go more often if I take too much at one time. I used to wake my husband up in the middle of the night with the noises my stomach made until I started taking the juice on a regular basis. The juice tastes gross but it does work for me. I honestly couldn't live without it.

OK so just last night my husband told me that he woke up to the most gut wrenching smell that even sticking his face in the fan didn't help.. lol.. I can't help it and he know it now so he makes joke about it to make me feel better about the sewer i have pent up inside me.. Yes I said sewer because when I have to at work my boss always makes a comment about how the sewer must be backing up again.. And I'm not telling her it was from me.  I just say yea I know it smells.. I think the gas is a normal thing.. and it hurts if you hold it in just let go. and pretend it was the dog :)... thats what I used to do until my husband realized that the dog makes a squick noise then bites his butt when he poots.. so that doesnt work anymore..
The probiotic helped slow down my gas but I got immune to it and it stopped working..
My Iron and vitamin c make it worse..
I don't think we are alone on this topic...

sometimes i wonder if the CIA is going to come and arrest me seeing how this kind of gas was outlawed by the geneva convention...

it has been an on and off thing for me the past few months and i am pissed that i cant pinpoint it. i've stopped all my suspect foods for over a week and no real change. now i am stopping my iron supplement cos it got worse around that time. i dont think my probiotic has anything to do with it but just in case i was going to switch brands when the one i am on runs out in a week or two. i seem to only get it though in the afternoon and evening. i hardly eat grains so i dont know what is in me fermenting. this weekend i plan on using a colonic to clean me out and hopefully anything in there that may be causing it.

My farts and poops only stink during that time of the month (sorry fellas), otherwise, my gas is few and less frequent thanks to taking the fibre supplements daily, no more bloating either because of it and quite a few more benefits as well.

My bum is broken....there's a big crack down the middle of it!  LOL  :)

If your probiotics make your gas worse, you need to read the labels and see if they have FOS in them. The FOS is a sugar that "feeds" the probiotics. It stays in your gut and makes the WORST gas ever. I unknowingly took a probiotic with FOS in it and had gas from HE!! for 3 whole days. Ugh, I'll never do that again. You CAN buy probiotics WITHOUT FOS. Just gotta read the labels.

I may have mild crohns, but I have wild gas. I just gave up trying to find out what the cause is. Every time I think I know, my intestines prove me wrong... For some odd reason it is mostly odorless. At least I think it is... lol

Pia, I am with you - loads of gas. It is very loud with really long farts that turn the heads of everyone without a hearing problem. They rarely smell, thank heavens. I begin farting within 5 minutes of eating something or even swallowing my pills. Never had gas before the CD went into remission - primarily because I could not trust that the fart didn't contain a "present."
