When you get your period what do you guys take?  I know you are not supposed to take NSADS or whatever?? Is it safe to take pamprin, mydol etc. Tylenol just doesnt cut it.  the first two days are just hell.  Besides being stuck to the heating pad anyone have any idea what medication you can take?  Just wondering if you guys just use your pain killers for it? I know Pamprin has ibuprophen in it, don't take that. You only options seem to be be something with Tylenol it in. Which, doesn't work for me...good ole heating pad and snacks seem to be the outlets i've used.

Now on Prednisone 40mg, stopped Entocort while on pred.
Ferrous Sulfate 325mg/daily for anemia

I do miss the Advil and aleve, since my diagnosis in March I dread that time of the month cause I have horrible cramps and I think Tylenol does almost nothing.

I did however read an article once that taking extra calcium during your period should lessen the symptoms. I tried it but did not notice much. maybe that would work for you? Us chronies could use some extra calcium anyway.

I Plan to talk to my obgyn at my next checkup and ask if there is something I can do... I don't care what, heck I would eat tree bark if I knew it would take away the cramps cool

yeah i talked to my obgyn and they wanted to put me on anoprox and told me to eat with it which is NSAIDS Im like I cant take that before i got a definite diagnosis. Please let me know if you hear anything about what you cant take. How about it! For migranes ADVIL Migrane and same thing with aleve for cramps. I miss that as well. Maybe i will just look into my cabinet since it has turned into a pharmacy and see what good stuff i can find because tylenol just sucks. Tricia

This all happened this year and i feel like a drug addict i mean taking 10 pills a day plus vitamins and stuff. But have to do something the first 3 days of my period just miserable. I have appt with my gi doctor the end of the month i will talk to him about this and see what he says the best to take and get back to you guys. tricia

Are you on birth control? I used to have very long and very painful periods and I started on Yaz and now my period only lasts a couple of days and I never cramp. If you are able to take bc I would reccomend Yaz.

or, you can do what i do and go on seasonale (i actually take a generic called quasense) and lessen your periods per year. that way you only have to do with that hell 4 times a year. tylenol does not do crap for me either. i miss advil so bad :(

Dustspeck- do you still have pain when you are on seasonale? I don't mean CD pain, but menstrual pain. I would think that would eleviate it.

Midol is probably safe.  It has acetominophen (Tylenol), caffeine, and pyrilamine.  The caffeine is to help you feel more alert and the pyrilamine is a mild diuretic so the bloating isn't so bad.  No aspirin or NSAIDs in there.

I asked my doc about the Yaz and he said it was completely fine and it makes my life a little bit easier around that time of the month. I was going to take the seasonale but heard some people were having quite a bit of trouble with it. Yaz has worked great for me, I would def. talk to your doc about either one.

You should be fine taking birth control.  It actually might help you feel better during that time of the month.  If you're apprehensive about the effects of systemic hormones, like in the form of an actual birth control pill, you can ask about the NuvaRing, which is a thin, flexible plastic ring that exerts a more localized effect.  You put it in yourself (just push it up there, very easy) and leave it there for 3 weeks.  It just fits around your cervix.  Then you take it out for a week and have your period, then put a new one in.  Easy breezy.

rootsmith - i do. i had a particularly crappy time with my last one :/ i had pretty bad cramps for 2 days which i usually do not. i also had a pred taper from 30mgs to 20mgs the same weekend and was having a lot of my infamous upper abdominal pain. i have had pretty good luck otherwise though. just some mild pms cramping but not even enough to take tylenol for.
