Hi .. Its 9:44 pm.. getting late but not super late yet in my book. I started Pred 60mg last thursday. Sat & Sun I was up till after 1 am and woke up several times after that.. insomnia.. I see it listed as a side effect. I feel tonight will be no different yet s I am wide awake and typically would start to be getting sleepy.. I am surprised I was not tired during the day on sun or today. My Q - will I crash at some point or is this what insomnia does just keeps you awake..Do you ever take a Tylenol pm or something.. ? So far I guess its not so bad as I have been reading and watching tv till silly hours..

i have had sleep problems for many years but i noticed that the prednisone made it MUCH worse. it's fairly common and people on here have gotten prescription sleep aids to sleep while on higher doses. now that i am on 15mgs (was on 40mgs) it hasn't gotten any better.

just to give you a heads up! good luck getting some zzz's :)

You are on a very hefty dose of Pred, so you are going to have the insomnia for a while.  My experience was that I needed only a small amount of sleep (maybe 3 or 4 hours tops) and was fine all day long.  I simply did not get tired and in fact felt very wired.  Heck, I wanted to rip up buildings with my bare hands.  So, buy lots of books and movies and enjoy the weird feeling.

I had the same problem.  It's very, very common.  My doctor had me take Benadryl before bed and it helped quite a bit.  Hope you can get off it soon.

When I was on pred I just didn't need the sleep. I'd be up in the middle of the night and feel like cleaning or doing an art project. I would often feel fatigued during the day, but that was more from the disease than the lack of sleep. When I tapered the pred things got back to normal and I now really need my full 8 hours.
Currently in remission!

I'm in the same boat as you! It's 2:17AM I'm beyond tired, in pain, and just want to sleep for the first time in weeks. Can't offer anything other than ask your doc for a sleep aid. I'm on enough pills so i'm trying to avoid that....but too many more of these nights and i just may be looking into it. Good luck!

Now on Prednisone 40mg, stopped Entocort while on pred.

Good morning and thanks for your replies ! Last night I did get some zzz's finally.. but not to many... Currently I am out of work for a bit d/t the Pyoderma Gangrenosa so I do not need to be up in the mornings... So I will try and enjoy the extra awake time and see if it catches up with me... as some of you it does and others it does not ! I think I will begin a new book today in preparation for tonight ! Take Care..

hi painted songs...been on prednisilone on and off for 15 years to control allergy asthma...side effect same as yours.I had sleeping tabs but was like a zombie till midday and couldnt do my teaching job.Decided to take a short walk every evening just before bed time [about 10 mins walk] instead of tabs and it worked...not too far to upset asthma but just the fresh air helped. Also bought a hand held massager which I can use independently ...use on shoulders , tummy, back and neck just before bed, works wonders and no side effects..magic.Another hint for dropping off..forget the tv...put on some classical music, lie flat on your back and take long, deep breathes in and will drop healthy Groovey
