This is unusual for me, and I need your input to ease my mind. I'm having a problem emptying my bowel properly, although I'm
not constipated. I'm passing small amounts of soft undigested food, little at a time, but the cramping is the worse I've had. I'm sitting
on the toilet bearing down and nothing, then it builds again and I pass a spoonful of food, even the toilet water color doesn't change.
Anybody else have this? Thanks
Vicky

Vicky,

I'm sorry I can't help you. Hopefully someone will come along who can. My guess would be some kind of obstruction, but it's just a guess. Isn't it amazing that these things always happen on a weekend or holiday? I hope you feel better soon.

It's so important for everyone (but especially IBDers) that we chew the heck out of our food in order for it to digest easier, some people even swear by taking digestive enzymes after each meal to aid with this, but nothing beats chewing the heck out of your food so your system doesn't have to work as hard through the digestive process.

I only ate rice, but it did have button mushrooms in it. It's those that seem to be causing the problem. Which doesn't make a lot of sense
because they're soft. Oh well! I'm still grunting away, like I'm in labor. I guess I'll check with the doc tomorrow, as things haven't worsened.

Judy, you're right everything does seem to happen at the weekend. I think if I really cast my mind back, most of my ER visits have been
at the weekend. I wonder if there's something different we do? My husband is at home, do you think it's that! LOL

Hi Vicky, Mushrooms are the cause of the problem. My gastro doctor told me they are a poison to us
crohnnies. So please stay away from all mushrooms.

I'm new at this, but for me the undigested food means I'm more in a flare. I hope tonight goes ok and call your Dr. in the am. Do you have anything to help with the cramps?

Vicky,

Mushrooms don't digest well, stay pretty much the same coming out as they went in, they very well may be your problem if you have any narrowing. I hope you can get through the weekend. Just what you needed more pain, I think if I were in your shoes I'd go to the ER just to get some good pain meds for a few hours, a little respite.

I'll be thinking of you, keep holding on girl.

hmmm, I eat alot of mushrooms and have absolutely no problems with it and they definitely don't come out looking like mushrooms, but like I said, I chew, chew, chew so none of my food comes out undigested.

Thanks guys, I know I should've known better, but you know what it's like, all I saw was the rice, didn't give the mushrooms
a thought.
I took my temp awhile ago 99.6, so it's climbing, but I don't feel so bad. I'll get through, good old vicodin will help!!

Dunny,

What you describe is pretty much how I am in the bathroom anytime I eat something I'm not suppose too.
What annoys me along with the severe cramping is that after I think I'm finished and wipe, wrong...yet another spoonful! I don't usually have alot of undigested food unless there was something green & leafy though. Hope you feel better and that you don't have any narrowing or marked increase in inflamation.

Dunny, I'm sure you know this and I am so sorry to probably be preaching to the choir here, but just be cautious with the Vicodin.  It definitely can work wonders for the pain but that constipating effect sometimes can't be ignored, especially if you're having difficulty passing the BMs.  And watch that temp!  The Vicodin probably also has some acetominophen in it, which is a fever-reducer, so it can mask an elevating temp.

Please let us know how you're holding up!

This does happen to me!!

BRAT diet would be good!!

Your food is not digesting and I am sure that is what is wrong.

I love mushrooms and have never heard that, so Thanks guys! I will remember that. Strange!

And they say chew your food 100 times before swallowing. I never do this though, but I try sometimes and it is hard!!
