Hi everyone, i hope everyone is doing good
I'm an 18 year old female, i have had stomach issues since 9th grade im a senior now, but anyway i was diagnosed with u/c when i was 16 but then got ill and was rediagnosed with crohns when i was 17. I then had 2 separate hospital stays for crohns exacerbation. that was in nov/dec of 2006. I am currently on 5mg of pred. 6-Mp, remicade, protonix. ANyway i have had a hard time getting off the pred, its been a year now, casue i feel kinda sick when im not on a large dose. So my doc has referred me to a specialist at the univeristy of chicago Dr. Stephen Hanauer, to help me get off pred. I was wondering if anyone knew of the alternative treatments he may suggest, or if i need another colonscopy/endoscopy, (it's been a year). I've felt pretty lousy since going below 10mg of pred. Missing ALOT of school, mainly for fatigue and just feeling icky. But now it seems like im having bouts of D more often, and im kind of scared of what the doc is going to suggest me to do. I am still relavently new to the crohn's world, so is it normal to feel just plain blahhh all the time and have these bouts of D, or should i be more concerned and conatct my doc right away? Thanks for listening, this site is amazing! :-)

Welcome. Just wanted to tell you that I also feel lousy when weaning off pred. I am on humira now for 4 weeks and just started to wean entocort from 6 mg to 3 mg. I already am getting sl achier in my hands and neck, and my throat is sore. I am on pred 10mg and so am not going to taper fast, will take it very slow. Last time weaning I had a lot of chest heaviness and just felt plain lousy. Good luck to you.
Diagnosed at age 19 with CD.

Hi Kix,
I have heard that Dr. Hanauer and the whole U of Chicago team is a great place to go. I don't know what they will suggest, but it's definitely worth a second opinion. Read some of the threads on fatigue. I believe that faigue is part of the Crohn's illness, but also, I think it can be from the meds too. There's lots of info on different diets..you may need to experiment with what works. Sorry you have missed so much school. I am 48 with an 18 year old son. I can imagine that it is hard to be patient with your disease at your young age, but try to hang in there. I hope you feel better soon

Hi Kix, and welcome! I would be surprised if any allopathic doctor recommends true alternative treatments. I have yet to run across a doctor that will. That said, I ditto what Roni said: Try the Maker's Diet and probiotics. They seem to be doing wonders for us!

Again, welcome, and I hope you are feeling better real soon!

Grateful for everyone's help here!

Mother to 15 year old boy just diagnosed in June, 2007.
Currently taking Asacol, omega 3s, digestive enzymes, probiotics, iron, vit. C, and a good multivitamin.

Started The Maker's Diet in early September.
