Hi.. I have been taking my prednisone for about 2 weeks now.. my insomnia has simmered down and I am sleeping more but yesterday I got the hunger. Holy hunger ! I mean I just took a little walk and then ate a nice healthy lunch, which should have been filling and I just finished my last bite and I want more.. I know this can create a bigger appetite but HELP !! Any advice / suggestions on how to fend off these cravings would be appreciated... I will just sit here and starve and wait for your help :)

Hi Sure hard to give advice after an additional 50 lbs. here but I had to cut out the sweets. I ate corn pops or twist not sure what there called now but they are soft and yellow. I don't know what else a person should do to not be hungry all the time .I have been craving biscuits all week and am thinking of cooking some up to go with my stew I got cooking. Maybe try several small meals instead of 3 big ones. I"ll be waiting to read what others say. lol gail

liquids...keep drinking liquids..it will trick you into thinking that you are full. also, stay away from carbs. carbs leave people who aren't on prednisone feeling hungry, so imagine if you are on pred and eat a lot of breads, sugars, etc.

Try eating little and often. You may still put a little weight on, but it does help tame the monster. I call it a monster because thats what
it's like, "feeding a monster" It's the worst feeling in the world, I think you gonna have to just go for it. Nothing really curbs it. Good luck

Will not give advice on this issue, since I basically am a choclate addict on pred. My answer was JUST GIVE IN. tongue Besides it tastes good! Fortunately, I have a hard time gaining weight, so this actually was a little bit helpful. But of course, not really healthy..

If you're craving chocolate, Fudgesicles have always been a good, low-fat treat. I know you can also get the sugar-free kind, too.

Good luck!

Always take pred first thing early in the morning to alieviate insomnia, drink alot of fluids to help curb your harsh appetite and do cardio everyday to get control of the weight gaining issue.

If you are able to eat fruits and veggies then you can pretty much eat as much of that as you want and not get unhealthy weight-gain from it (as opposed to eating a bunch of garbage processed foods and fast-foods which isn't suggested IBDers do anyways as it exacerbates symptoms)...juice fruits and veggies if you have to.

i was wondering the same thing. i received some steroids via IV while i was having remicade last month. i've gained 13 pounds. oreos (daily) and coldstone (at least 3x a week).

this past week i decided this had to stop. so when i get the sweets craving, i have fruit. i've also tried the little pudding cups instead of the ice cream. also, just don't buy the unhealthy stuff. go ahead and eat!

i remember the times when i couldn't keep anything in, so i'm not so hard on myself right now. it will pass, just like the insomnia (i've been through that too). i've done this a thousand times.

Thanks for your input.. I think you all gave some great suggestions and when I am having a craving I will come and try to reread your posts.  The only other problem that I am having is that the pred is treating Pyoderma Gangrenosa, a skin condition on my leg which is a large ulcer. I am actually out of work due to this and my activity has been greatly limited from it. Over the weekend was the first walk/activity I was ok'd to do in 5 weeks.. So this leaves me awake from insomnia, starving from prednisone, and home all day because I am out of work .. What a challenging combo.. feel the pain.. haha... I did teach myself to make glass bead bracelets last weekend to help consume some of my time with positive things though ! Take Care and thnaks again !
