I have tried taking a drink before takign it, not taking a drink, drinking it with milk but yuck that awful tatse is still there. even if it just sits in my mouth for 1 second. It shows how evil it is. Any suggestions on how to cut that bad bad flavor? The good news is I just got to tpaer to 50mg and next week to 40 mg so hurray !

Hi Glad you get to taper . I just take them with my breakfast half way threw and try to swallow them as fast as I can and then eat some more breakfast. Hate to say it but I guess I am getting used to it or something because it doesn't bother me as much they are nasty if you leave them in your mouth too long .Could try putting them furthur back in mouth but not too far . Good luck and happy tapering. lol gail

i know, those pills are terrible! i usually eat apple sauce or canned fruit for breakfast and i do the same thing as gail. eat some breakfast, take pills, eat mor breakfast. and also, i have my little trick! i take a sip of juice, don't swallow it, tilt my head back, drop the pill in and then swallow. that way it doesn't hit my tongue :p

I hate the taste myself but just live with it or brush my teeth and use mouthwash after. My exhusband's cousin when he was on it for bronchitis (he is a child) would chase the pred with a spoonful of mustard

it's kind of gross but I'll chew up some food and then stick the dose into that and then swallow it. Otherwise, I'll throw up. That taste is awful. Also, spoons full of yogurt help out too...

I could taste the prednisone when I first started taking it, and what was even more terrible was the Flagyl - it was bitter and horrible.  I realized it also had a bit of a dusting on it from the pill bottle so I started gently wiping off the pills before I took them and that helped with both of them. i also chug a ton of water and take a bite of fruit or something after I take it.

I'm not on it now, but in the past, I've "chased' it orange juice, to cut the flavor. I'll probably be on it again after monday. sigh

My colonoscopy. :( Basically, they're pretty sure that I've got ulcer-whatever it is- colitis or Crohn's, but my dr didn't want to prescribe something serious like pred until she sees the results. But then again, I've got classic symptoms so she's pretty sure that's what's wrong with me. I was taking pretty serious drugs for a bad accident a few years ago, so the original thought was that the meds had killed my stomach lining, but I've been off of them for nearly 6 months so I shouldn't still be sick like this.

When I was taking Pred, I would put liquid in my mouth without swallowing and drop the pills in, then swallow. I only screwed up a couple times and tasted the pills...they are horrible tasting!

Here's a solution to the taste of prednisone:
Take a teaspoon
Pour in a little honey
Move tablet around in honey to cover it completely (I take two 50mg tabs one at a time.)
Have glass of water ready
Spoon pill into mouth and take swallow of water
Down the hatch
No ugly taste and I'm ready for the second pill.
What a relief
I need to take these blasted things for 5 days after each chemo treatment. The worst part of the whole thing, easily, was the prednisone.

Good luck all!

Yeah, I know this is a nearly 6-year-old thread, but I'm still like '*** u gaiz?' Literally never noticed a taste from Pred, nasty or otherwise. The tablets are tiny and 4 at a time can easily be swallowed whole, no sweat.

Do like this: cut small rectangle (like a big vitamin swallow size) of cheddar cheese. put slit in cheese, put pill in pocket, swallow pill pocket. (my prednisolone pills are very tiny, so it's small enough to do this).
