I have read alot of stuff on taking Pentasa during Pregnancy, but has anyone had good/bad experiences?  I am 5 1/2 months pregnant and came off my Pentasa because I was doing well before I became pregnant.  My problem before was in the last part of the colon and many problems with fistulas.  I now feel pressure in my inner thigh/panty line area and I am afraid I am getting another fistula.  It feels swollen.  Any advice on Pentasa and pregnancy would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Diane

Thanks for the post to read.  I was hoping to find someone that was pregnant and taking Pentasa or that knows someone that took it.  The scary thing is my ob doctor doesn't really want to get involved unless he has to and says it is totally up to my gastro doctor with meds and what to do.  I hope the gastro doctor is totally up on Crohns and pregnancy.  I want to make sure whatever treatment they offer is totally safe for the baby.  I feel sure I have a fistula and an abcess is forming.  The feeling is all too familiar unfortunately.

I am not pregnant or on Pentasa, but do take the sister med Asacol. These are the mildest meds to treat Crohns. Many women on this board have had babies while on Remicade and Imuran. And all their babies have been completely healthy. Stef17 is one who comes to mind. In my humble opinion, if they can have healthy babies on immunesuppresants like that, I am sure Pentasa would be completely harmless to the baby. Good luck and I am sure others will be along soon to share their stories.

God Bless,

I haven't taken pentasa, but I have taken Asacol during my pregnancies. The dose was 3200mg/day. Both of my kids are healthy. Also, asacol breaks down in the large intestine/colon so the effect is more localized. I wasn't worried at all about taking it while pregnant because it's such a benign drug. If pentasa is very similar, I would say that you should consult with your GI and see what he thinks. The risks to your baby are probably minimal at best.

I took Pentasa while pregnant. It is perfectly safe and listed as a category B med. It is one of the best to be on while pregnant.
