Pb4 I was shocked after reading the litany of complaints about health services in Calgary to see on the national news last evening that Foothills hospital has the lowest rate of death of any hospital in Canada according to a national study using a newly developed survey tool. Isn't that Calgary's tertiary care hospital? Wow! I guess they must be doing something right! Cape Breton Regional, in Nova Scotia where I come from had the highest rate of any of the major regional hospitals examined.

Don't believe everything you read (or hear)...our wait times are no less than 14 hours in emergency in Calgary (no wonder woman are having miscarriages in public wait rooms in the ER eh)...

You know why they say the death rate is the lowest in hospitals in Canada, because they tell you there's nothing wrong with you and send you home to die (if you remember in the other post about my MIL and her bowel obstruction which almost killed her with feces poisoning).

The media can make surveys show anything they want them to show.....

pb, I had know idea you came from Calgary. My sister is from there, Dovercourt, SE Calgary. She & my BIL are both in there
70's, and they are constantly telling me who their health care has changed. My brother lives in Edmonton, he works within the
health care and is getting so demoralized with the whole system.
Let's hope that if you need care it will be swift, unlike your poor MIL...

Hi dunny :)

Yup, born and raised Calgarian but the city was getting so over populated, busy and just plain going downhill we moved to a small town 1/2 an hour out of the city...still make the odd trip with having family and such there (shopping too of course) but talk about stress with the crazy traffic and road-rage and down right rude people everywhere...really sad because I use always be so proud of my once beautiful city but that changed a long time ago now...I know where Dover is, my hubby's parents still live in Forest Heights, basically in the same end of the city as Dover....I wouldn't be surprised if my in-laws might even know your sister especially if they've lived there for decades and had any kids in hocky (as hubby was) or even soccer...or into community darts.

I can totally understand how your brother feels too, I've even had excellent family docs pack up and call er quits because of what the government has done to our health care system.

My sister had two sons, one of them was pretty good at hockey. Their names are Peter & Paul Krich. It would be a small world
if your husband Knows them.
In my opinion, for what it's worth I think Calgary is still a beautiful city. We've been on vacation up there 3 times, we are totally in
love with the mountains. There's one little place on the way to Banff, that I really fell in love with, I forgotten the name right now, but
I know it's become extremely popular. My other favorite place is Fairmont Hot springs... It's breath taking country..

ARe you thinking of Canmore? Calgary is a beautiful city for the most part but it was even more beautiful 20 yrs ago when there were no traffic headaches and it still had a small town feel to it.

I'll have to mention the names to my hubby and MIL and see what they say.

Mountains are gorgeous yes, but also the reason why it can get so yucky cold (brrrrrr). It is nice that we get chinooks though (mind you for many it can bring on severe headaches), but to the best of my knowledge Alberta is the only province in all of Canada that gets chinooks (warm wind) which is nice to get in the winter on occassion, infact we're suppose to be getting one come this Tues/Wednesday.

Not from Calgary...but thought it kinda fit...I actually hope you all have a good hospital there. Here in Arizona, the hospitals are not so great.

I thought that a 3 or 4 hour wait in the emergency room was bad in Alabama. I feel sorry for ya'll folks.
