Hi all,

I have always had sleep issues most in the past have been insomnia.  I would be exhausted all day long however I was unable to sleep/nap during the day unless I was sick with a cold and even then it was tough.  Pain meds typically do not make me sleepy they give me energy with a few exceptions but the ones on the exception list are ones only they give by IV at the hospital to me ex: fentanyl by iv combined with versed anotehr would be morphine.  All other pain meds I have been on dont make me sleepy.  I have ambien on hand if I need them, I take dilaudid for pain and I am back on Fentanyl patches the 50mcg/hr now.  I always take benadryl at bedtime and PRN thru the day I take 2 benadryl...I also take 2 tylenol PM (yes I know the part in it that makes you sleepy is benadryl), I also take Tizanadine (zanaflex...it is a muscle relaxer) if I take that during the day even 1/4 of a pill I am knocked out but I take 2 at bed time and still have trouble falling asleep.  I use to be on 100mg of Elavil but since have cut down and now staying at 25mg per day it is to prevent migraines.

Lately since about the end of Oct, begining of Nov when the fistula really picked up as far as drainage and I had gone in the hospital for a picc for tpn etc I find I am tired more often have trouble kleeping my eyes open.

I had the picc pulled the monday before Thanksgiving since I ended up with picc line sepsis and after that they started me on regular food the day before thanksgiving.  Low residue that is they also have me taking my iron pills again which from oct 31 till thanksgiving night I didnt have iron going in me cant mix it with tpn and they didnt want to give me that too since trying to rest my gut I dont know why since I had had IV iron back in the late winter early spring.

What is odd now is that I have trouble staying awake which is great but then I find myself waking up over and over again throughout the night.  Here is another odd thing, this happened to me once before too and at a bad time I was driving to work....This morning I woke up one of my many times was a little hungry so I had a snack.  It made me thirsty and I have a bottle of water next to bed so I had that and literally closed my eyes for a split second fell asleep awoke a few minutes later with water that spilled out of the bottle all in my bed and fell asleep holding the rest of my snack.  Again this morning I was watching TV before taking my shower would close my eyes for a few seconds and felt myself nodding.  I made myself some tea and was falling asleep while holding my cup of tea.  After my shower it got a little better.

Anyone have this happen before the closing your eyes a little longer than a blink and falling asleep catching yourself with your head falling?
