I have Crohn's colitis for the most part it has been in the large intestine with a little flare in the ileum.  I have had a rough few months with a Pitutiary tumor removed months ago.  I have no appetite, and lost a lot of weight, insomnia , sleepy groggy during the day, and just feel tired and hopeless.  I recently noticed blood in my stool, and  since my eyes are not what they use to be I wonder if it has been going on longer than I have noticed.  I need a flashlight to see the blood.  Somewhere between bright red and a bit darker, anyway it has been 2 and a half years since my last screen with many biopsies (I go to Mayo and they take a lot).  My question is what do you guys think about the the odds of cancer?  The stool are fromed, not much in the way of cramping  mainly the blood and my other symptomes.  Also wondering how long it takes to turn from dysplasia to frank cancer?  Although I just read since they cant do every inch you could have dysplasia somehwere that wasn't biopsied and there you go.  Not a perfect screening was the way the article read.  I have pancolitis (crohn's colitis) for approx 30 years.  I know that puts me in a higher risk for cancer, even though my disease has been pretty quite it doesn't matter just having it increases the risk.
I am taking Asacol, lexapro, ambien cr also ativan.  I wonder if those meds are hard on the gut and would induce a flare.  Do many of you have flares with blood only and no real stool increase or change.  Once a day with blood on inspection with a long straw I noticed the blood flakes off like little particles that attached late in the processs.  I also have a history of diverticulosis and diverticulitis.  The bleeding could be from the divericula too I suppose.  Thanks for reading I am freaking a bit if I felt better I may not have such panic.   NCY

Hi Just wondering if you tried ensure or boost to help with your weight lost. Sounds like you have been threw alot with your tumor being removed and I can understand why you are worried. Have you had bleeding issues before? Have you seen your GI recently to discuss the blood issues? Have you had your B-12 checked recently? I am hoping you will get some answers soon from your Dr. on some of these problems you are having. IBD is hard on a person at times but made worse when we have alot of questions and no answers. Hopefully your GI can give you some test or reassurance on these questions. Hang in there and try not to worry unless you are certain something like that is wrong. Keep in touch and let us know how you are doing. lol gail

Yes you have a higher colon cancer probability with Crohn's in the colon. The recommended screening interval for longstanding CD is 2-3 years, so you are obviously due for a new scope. If there was no dysplasia evident last time, your odds are better; however, any time yu have repeated episodes of bleeding in longstanding IBD it's best to take a look. That's the only way to know for sure.

Thanks for the kind words and info. I have a colonoscopy in about 10 days. Have any of the members here had a change from IBD to cancer? Or dysplasia? I read they sometimes watch it, but sometimes remove the colon. Thanks again for posting. NCY

Have you tried DCA for the cancer?
Tests I've had:
5-6 colonoscopies (lost count), Barium follow through, Barium enema, 2-3 CT scans, plenty of xrays (lost count)
Prednisone (started at 40mg stepping down) been on this one 3-4 times
Tried Imuran, no good
Would try remicade if I had coverage ($2500 per 2 hour IV :P)
Herbal remedies tried:
4Life Transfer Factor Plus (2 bottles at 3x recommended dosage)
Primal Defense (3x dosage recommended...yuck)
Many different probiotics including:
VSL #3 (450 billion live bacteria!)
    Primadophilus Optima
Omega 3 Oils (caps and liquid)
GNC liquid multi (had to get this one from the US)
Paraway Parasite Cleanse
New Roots Herbal Parasitis Kit
Just ordered Mastic Gum capsules (120x1000mg) and Mastic Gum pure from the tree (10gr. bag)
