Hi everyone!
Ever since I started Remicade just over a year ago, I've realized that I've been getting strep throat at least once a month if not twice. Now I know that my immune system is really low right now because of the Remicade. I was just wondering if any of you that are on Remicade tend to get strep throat as much as I do.
Thanks! Happy Holidays!!

I'm not on Rem but could it be a problem with your tonsils?

26 Year old married female.  Diagnosed w/ CD 3 years ago, IBS for over 10 years before that, which was probably the CD.  Currently on Pentasa 4 pills/4x day, hysociamine prn, nexium, and ortho evra.  Good times!!!

I think Fitzy maybe on to something. My daughter, who is pretty healthy, has had like 4-5 bouts with Tonsillitis this year and will be going to a ENT doc soon to see about getting her tonsils out. So maybe its the Remicade or maybe you just have bad tonsils. Good Luck!

Been living with Crohn's Disease for 32 years.  Currently on Asacol, Prilosec 60 mg, Estrace, Prinivil, Diltiazem, Percoset prn for pain and Calcium.  Resections in 2002 and 2005.  Recently diagnosed with Fibromyalgia and doing tests to see if I have Inflammatory Arthritis or AS.

It may be coincidence, you might need to get your tonsils and adnoides removed, I've heard of this happening to adults.

My daughter was 7yrs old when she kept having re-occuring strep throat, doc said to get her tonsils and adnoides removed, so we did and she hasn't had strep since (she's 18 yrs old next month).

:)

My bum is broken....there's a big crack down the middle of it!  LOL  :)

Last year I had 4 bouts of strep....once a month for 4 months.  They sent me to an ENT.  I am on remicade and imuran.  It was really bad timing (a month before Christmas) to get my tonsils out, and I was going to wait until Spring break...I'm a teacher....but I never got strep again.   Could you just be reinfecting yourself?  My daughter and I kept passing it back and forth.  Also, ask them if they could culture your next strep test.  That way you can be on the specific antibiotic to treat whatever strain it is.

My youngest son was a strep carrier! He'd never run fever or have any other symptoms but the throat culture & rapid test ALWAYS came back positive. They'd put him on antibiotic and like clockwork within 7 days after finishing the course of antibiotics...he'd test positive again! Had the tonsils & adnenoids removed and he hasn't had it since!

Last spring I had 3 cases of strep in a row. Once I ran out of antibiotics, I would wake up the next morning sick again. Really bizarre! I heard the tonsils theory but didn't pursue it. My husband got checked to see if he might be a carrier, but came up clean. I'm a school therapist so I wonder if I was just getting re-exposed. I finally kicked it and haven't had it since. Good luck...let us know how it turns out!

hi, i'm new here, am taking humira for anklosing spondylitis, a very mean cousin of rheumatoid that effects the large joints and spine...i take my injection every other week and also take sulfasizide 2x daily...unfortunatley , thus far, i have received little to no relief from these meds...i developed the worst case of strep throat this past weekend that i've EVER had in my life ( strep has always been my bodies "bug" of choice from childhood...yet it has been quite a while since i've had it...my granddaughter had it a week prior to me geting it, so i suspect that is the source...i had a 104* temp for several hrs., severe bodyaches, headache and severe difficulty swallowing for 4 days...i got started on antibiodics withing 16 hrs of symptoms, but i guess by then it had really gotten a hold on my body...i realize that the meds i have to take severely reduce the bodys' ability to fight off germs, and this has me seriously wondering..."is this med really worth the danger of severe and fatal infections ?   today is my 4th day, and my fever has finally broken and i can 1/2 way swallow...
