My 18 year old daughter started remicade three weeks ago and was originally scheduled to do it every 8 weeks.  After the first two weeks with no improvement, her doctor set her up for another infusion at week 2 and will do another at week 4, then taper to 6 or 8 week intervals.  The question I have is how long should it take to begin working.  She had the second infusion a week ago and still is not seeing any signs of being better.  She has stopped loosing weight which is great since she had slipped form 140 in July to 101 in November. But she is weak, up all night, has to run to the restroom immediately after eating anything.
One mor question for anyone on remicade, she is having tingly feet, is this a side effect to be concerned about?
Any thoughts or advice?

I appreciate any response.

Thanks,
Julie Gereda

When you start remicade you should get 3 loading doses...at week 0, 2 and 6. Then you have them every 8 weeks, or whatever your dr. determines from there. You definitely need to give it more time. The fact that she has stopped losing weight to me is a sign that it is working. Be patient with it. As far as the tingling of the feet goes, I would call her dr. Is she on any other meds? Flagyl is one that can cause that.

Check out the feet tingling thread if you haven't....low b12 can cause that.

Hi Julie, the remicade sometimes takes a few infusions before you see a difference. For me it was after my 3rd infusion that I started to feel better. just give it time everyone is different

Thank you for your answer.  I have been pulling my hair out thinking "what next?"  Her doctor said it would work immediately so we were so disapointed but knowing it may take a while gives us hope.

Thanks so much,

Julie

Hi I have been on Remicade for over 2 years. It can take up to 3 infusions to see a diffrence. The Remicade should start working by the 3rd infusion. Keep us posted.
