Hi all

I have had many surgeries this year for my CD.  After I had the 2nd Sx which was the temp ostomy and partial colectomy I found that I was nauseas a lot.  That Sx was Feb 19 2007.  Sometime in mid april I began vomiting many mornings with that same nausea daily.  Many asked if I was pregnant and that would be the furthest possibility.  My hubby gets grossed out by medical stuff, he even hates it when he can see the bandage on my belly for my fistula.  It has been since January that he and I have been intimate like that and I have not stopped my birth control anyway.

I was vomiting a lot after that surgery.  I found even eating did not curb the nausea or the vomiting.  Usually after vomiting I was nauseas a while after but after that I was fine for the rest of the day.  I had the nausea issue after my ostomy reversal Sx too but not nearly as often and until today I had only vomited once.  More recently I have been having the nausea in the morning and when I burp I can taste the bile...nothing comes up when I burp but you know how if you eat something with a pungent flavor if you burp after the air has the flavor of what you ate...well I get the bile flavor.

Today I had half of 1 of the big graham crackers and a few sips of gatorade hoping to not have the salivation that preceedes the vomiting.  Many times after the ostomy Sx I would get the salivation daily but luckily I would not vomit daily.  I am one that would rarely vomit even with my CD.  The last time I recall vomiting from being sick was at least 13 years ago...this is not including those few times I drank a bit too much while out at bars about 6 or 7 years ago.  I think I have vomited more in this year than I have in my lifetime combined.

I dont know if it has to do with my meds in the morning but I have always taken them on an empty stomach for all of these 20 years.  In the morning I typically take 65mg of iron, vitamin A, Vitamin B6, Zinc, Prenatal vitamin...my GI has me on that rather than a regular multi, Protonix, and recently duflucan which I have been on and off from the fistula and antibiotics this year.  I have taken this in the past too with no issues.

Any thoughts to why this is happeneing to me?

After vomiting I have a few dry heaves sometimes it even happens before my meds the nausea that is and I have vomited even with food in my stomach, I can eat the same thing later in the day so I know what I am having isnt rancid.

Dragonfly be careful, that could be the start of another blockage. That usually is my first symptom that things are narrowing in there. Not a full blockage per se, but things beginning to head that way. Before my last Sx I was nauseous all the time until they finally did the resection. Maybe with the Fistula you have one is starting or is already there. I think you best give the doc a call. Good luck and keep us posted.

It happened more right after my temp ostomy surgery. I still am having BMs last night I had one formed BM then I had D later. I find I have more pain when feces does not comeout of my fistula. I have my colonoscopy this Thursday and I had the fistulagram last week. I will tell them that I do have trouble having BMs I even take colace since I have the fentanyl patch and dilaudid. I find it odd that it only occurs in the morning if I wait too long to eat. If I eat early enough it curbs the nausea and that salivation doesnt happen. I recall when I stopped the protonix in the past the nausea stopped I wonder if it has to do with that or not. I startedon the protonix again when I was on TPN since then I get severe heartburn if I dont have the protonix...it isnt my gall bladder cuz I havent had one since 99

I see my surgeon and GI next week for appts and like I said the colonoscopy is this week. As far as the fistulagram it appears as though the fistula is coming from my transverse colon. I only have half of my transverse colon since he removed the ascending and half of the transverse in my past surgeries. I am eating the low residue diet still. I had tea today and some pastine for lunch...that can be used as baby cerial so I figure thats bland lol.

I plan on having some dinner tonight, and eating very little tomorrow so it will make it easier on me when I begin my prep on Wednesday with the osmo prep. I actually called my GIs office today about that. They have me taking more of the prep on Thursday and what concerned me is the fact of my nausea I get but it says clear liquids on Thursday morning with the prep so I may use apple juice unless one of you has heard different. I was concerned since I am so tolerant of meds so I am getting general anesthesia for my scope instead of the typical iv drugs. That concerned me since you are always told no food or drink after midnight the night before surgery. Then again look at emergency surgeries

My stomach pain has been lessening as has the drainage of the fistula so I am baffled as is my surgeon since he has never seen a fistula from the large colon to the skin not heal on its own and I have had mine since September. He also has never seen the mucosa from the fistula protrude from the skin then retract back in. He is as confused as I am as far as this. He has never heard of a fistula doing that either not only just never seeing it about the mucosa and it has happened 2 times with me already as far as it retracting

Another item to try while on clear liquids that really helped me not feel "so empty" was Chicken Broth. I got a couple of cans of those and put some in a cup, heated them in the micro and just sipped on them. That seemed to help me not feel sooooo hungry and empty or get so dehydrated. Another treat I gave myself was slurpees. As long as they weren't red or purple. Not sure that would be something you would want to go out in the weather to get though. I am in Southern Calif so that would be a good treat for me, probably not for you. HA! Hope you get some answers in your scope. Good Luck!

I have 3 large cans of that left over from my TPN days of only having clear liquids. I just am afraid for Thursday morning being that I have to take the remainder of the prep pills the morning of the scope. It also says that i can take my meds with a small sip oof water, I may just not take them at all but the prep has me drinking 24oz of clears the morning of my scope and I am having general anesthesia. I called to check on that and was told that is how he allows his patients to do it even if they are having general
