First off, I just wanted to say I've been reading posts recently even though I haven't had much time to post responses - stupid law school taking up my time. But now I'm on break and I've got a few questions for some stuff going on.

I've been pretty much in remission for a month or so now, with just a few instances of D - so that's pretty amazing for me. I'm tapering off the Entocort and will be completely off of it by the end of the month. So now I'm on Pentasa and Imipramine as well as the B12 shots monthly (along with the tetracycline for acne). Anywho, I have an appointment with my doctor scheduled for the beginning of January, but I've been noticing a couple things that have been weirding me out.

I'm not sure, but I think I might have an anal skin tag or something of that sorts. It's kind of uncomfortable, but I thought I would just wait until my doctor's appointment to bring it up. Also, my BM's tend to have the little small parts of the pill capsules in it as well as it looking completely shredded. I don't know a better way to describe it. There now always appears to be mucous in it and sometimes it looks like pieces of toilet paper. And then today, I finally started noticing that what I thought was just coming from regular wiping (sorry this is so gross) seems to actually come from when I'm urinating.. it's like I have some BM in my urine. That can't be normal. But I'm not sure if that's also something I shouldn't be concerned with as well.. and should just instead wait until my doctor's appointment. I had surgery in April for endometriosis, and they took out my appendix as well. I've felt for a while recently that something feels like it's pulling inside me, like the stiches or whatever they did to hold things up that were falling down inside me (I had a tipped uterus.. ) is coming apart or something. Before I noticed the wiping today, I had a sharp pain in my side. I didn't think much of it, since this type of pain isn't that unusual. In other words, should I just keep myself calm and enjoy my break and the holidays and wait until my appointment?

Thanks for reading all of this. You guys are such a help in keeping me sane. :-)

Hi I guess if it were me, you think there is feces coming out where you urinate I would put a call in to the Dr. and telll him what is going on in case it is a fistula and needs some looking after so you don't get infection. Keep in touch and let us know how things go. He probably would want your urine tested. lol gail

Yeah I agree with gachrons, I think you should go in earlier. I think you may have a fistula, especially with peeing feces. Please keep us posted.

Thanks for your responses. I looked up some basic information about fistulas, but reading through it I'm not sure if that's what I have. So I thought I'd ask you all, if I'm not peeing feces all the time (but only like 2-3 times yesterday) would that possibly still be considered a potential fistula? It seems from what I read that it would be continuous. And what I had going on seemed more like (sorry to get gross again) but more liquidy, but definitely when wiping appeared to looked like what happens after wiping after a BM. So it wasn't necessarily like an actual BM in my urine. I'm not sure if I'm explaining that right. I just would feel really bad bothering my doctor (even though I know that's what they're there for) and call and tell his office about this and then it turns out to be nothing. I guess it comes from how I was raised, you don't really bother people about medical stuff unless you know something is wrong. It's not probably the healthiest of solutions, but I guess I'm also mentally trying to pretend that my remission is still lasting. Anyways, for anyone that has a fistula.. what has your experience been and also, how does it get diagnosed?

I would still call. The leakage does not have to be continuous. Sometimes fistulas are very small, and they don't leak all the time. But if you have even minimal amounts of feces showing up in your urine, that does definitely suggest a fistula. If you move fast and get on an antibiotic like metronidazole (Flagyl) right away, you might be able to heal it up quickly before it gets worse.

Are you sure its not old blood clots? You might have interstial cystitis or a kidneystone. Anyway, check with a urologist & get a urinanalysis done. THey can test for coliform bacteria in you urine as well ( which would STRONGLY indicate fistula!).
As for you bowel problems, I hope you get into the promised land AKA as remission.

Take care..

Sincerely,
Matthew

So I took your advice and called my doctor's office and spoke with the nurse. She gave me a name of a urologist to call and try and make an appointment as soon as possible. But when I called I found out the earliest appointment they have is on January 9, which is after my appointment with my GI doctor. So I called my GI doctor's office back but was only able to leave a message. So I guess I'll just wait and see what they want me to do. I'll keep you all updated.

If it gets really bad and your in a ton of pain go to the ER and they will fix it.
In the meantime I'm hoping its nothing like that and only minor if that :)

I for one can say that a fistula does NOT drain the same amount all the time every day. I have some days when pus and blood are the only things that drain from mine...I can tell what comes out since mine is on my stomach right under my belly button. I had to prep today for my colonoscopy and it has not drained feces in 3 days and today it is pumping like crazy. It is to the point where I can feel the drainiage dripping down my stomach til it gets to a place that the gauze absorbs it since it got pretty saturated.

I luckily have never had a fistula into my bladder, vagina, or rectal fistula. I have only had thie enterocutaneous one and one that was discovered when I had my emergency Sx and it was intestine to intestine

I would be trying to get a urinalysis done immediately. Surely there is someone that can order an ordinary urinalysis. It will tell you whether there is fecal matter in your urine. Sometimes the presence of fecal choloforms are ignored because the technicians assume it's there because you don't know how to wipe your bum. So it's important that there's no chance of contaminating the sample and that the message gets carried through to those reading the results why this test is being done.

If you can't get this done immediately, just be on the look out for any signs of a bladder infection. If you get a fever, have pain when you pee or difficulty urinating you might need to make a visit to an ER department.

I'm not really in any more pain than normal.. which sounds weird, but is true. But I got a call back today from my GI office and they told me to get in and see my primary care doctor. So I have an appointment to see him tomorrow, and according to them they all think I have a UTI but I'm pretty positive I don't. I do think though that since it happened again this morning that it's not feces but is instead old blood clots. But I'm not sure what that would mean. I've had break through bleeding before but it always looks like I'm starting my period.. and this is definitely not what it looks like now. So I guess I will just have to wait and see what's going on. Thanks for all your help! :) I'll be sure to let you know what I find out.

So I went into the doctor yesterday, and much to my surprise I found out I have a UTI. My doctor did the urinalysis before I even was called back to see him. So I was totally surprised when the nurse told me I had one. I guess since I drink so much water anyways I didn't notice any increase in urination. And the soreness I always have kept me from noticing any new pain. So I've taken two antibiotics and will hopefully start feeling better soon.. especially since I leave tomorrow to go on a cruise. I'm just super sore in my abdomen now.. but I'm guessing that will pass soon. Thank you guys again for your advice. If it wasn't for you all, I don't know if I would have gone in to see the doctor. The only thing that makes me nervous is that I have no idea how long I've had it for. Oopsy. But thanks again!!
