Had my annual visit with the GI, plus a scope tomorrow, but he is really pushing the VSL3 route and says he has actually had some CD patients who were able to go fully off other meds while using this probiotic. I will remain on 50mg of 6mp but add the VSL3 daily and see where we are in six months. My symptoms (I am nnild-to-moderate Crohn's) have not been heavy in recent years, but small breakthrough flares still occur, and scopes have consistently shown some minor ulceration in the cecum and inflammation in the terminal ileum -- about what I expect to see again in tomorrow's scope.
So what are your experiences with VSL3? I know it ahs actually been used in at least one clinical trial and is the only probiiotic I have seen information on that seems to show some medically tested and evaluated improvement in most patients.

I haven't used it, but have heard others that have had alot of success with it. BUT......I also heard that you can get other probiotics to work just as well and at a lesser cost. PB4 uses one by I believe by Natures Way, (can't remember name) that she has had great success with and at a much lower cost. I 'll be interested to hear how it works for you. Keep us posted.

Wow...I wish we had your GI. That's wonderful he is willing to prescribe probiotics!

I can't speak to VSL, but we do use another very potent probiotic and I believe it has made a BIG difference. I've called local drug stores and have located VSL, so it may be in our future. I was pleasantly surprised, as is isn't as costly as I'd expected.

Best of luck! I hope it really, really helps!

Grateful for everyone's help here!

i've heard a lot of good stuff about vsl 3 from those who take it. i've never tried it but plan to some time soon. i've used primal defense, primal defense ultra, Th1-s and soon i'll be giving complete pribiotics a try (it is recommended by dr. mercola - check out his website).

i got off all my meds almost 2 months ago using probiotics and other supplements and maintaining a strict diet.
