So my GI wants to put me on this drug in the form of an injection.. I'm also on Humira. My understanding that the needle for the Methotrexate goes to the muscular tissue as opposed just under the skin like with Humira..
is there any one that administers Metho. shots here and how bad is it? haha.. im scared
and why is he putting me on folic acid?? i didnt ask..

I just started the oral methotrexate, but the doctor wants me to switch to the shots when I am done traveling because he thinks they "work better."  He did not say anything about folic acid, but the research I did indicated that it is a good idea to take folic acid with methotrexate in order to counteract the drug's suppression of the production of red blood cells.  From what I read, it is best to take the folic acid pre-emptively instead of waiting to see if you develop anemia.  I am taking the MX with Remicade but was on Humira at one time without enough help for the arthritis and iritis.

I was on the shots a few years ago, I thought they worked well. I gave myself an injection once a week. I did have nausea the rest of the day after the injection but thats it. My injections were done in my stomach and thighs and didn't hurt,it wasn't intermuscular like the B-12 shots. Hope this helps

I am not on methotrexate at this time because; I was put on another med and I needed worse than the methotrexate and the meds can not be takeing together. Now when I first started takeing it I was showed how to give my self a shot, and I had no problems at all it did not hurt and the needles I used were very small and I bareley felt the needle go in.The Methotrexate did help.Good luck and let us know how it goes.
