Does anyone else experience this?  Even when my Crohn's is basically in check I find that I get so incredibly nauseous when I'm hungry.  It's really frustrating sometimes because I'll be in bed and I want to rest longer before waking up but I have to get up and eat.  I haven't thrown up yet because I usually can get some food in but I just dry gag a lot because of it if I don't eat in time.

It makes me nervous because I am having the dreaded colonoscopy in a few weeks.  It's the first time that I'm doing the pills, I usually drink all the liquid.  My mom was so frustrated with me last time (2 years ago) that she wanted to see it I could get some valium next time!  I'm sure part of it is mental, but I'm sure it also has to do with the fact that I don't eat the whole and I'm really nauseaous in general and then I have to drink disgusting tasting liquid.  Hopefully the pills will be better. . .but I'm not the greatest with taking pills either. . .I don't want to go through all the trauma and drama like last year, or put my family through it.  But I'm worried that history will repeat itself.  Any tests I've had to do (colonoscopies and upper GI series) I've thrown up everywhere and when it's something like the upper GI where it's done in the hospital, it's really embarrassing!

I also get naseuas when hungry. I got through the preps by drinking clear broth, light colored popsicles, jello, and clear hard candies to fool my belly into thinking it was full. Also sucking ice chips helps w/ the naseau. I get super witchy sometimes if I dont eat on time. I just feel so lousy.

Yes I get incredibly nauseous when hungry. The preps are just dreadful in that regard. Fitzy is right, popsicles, jello, chewing gum , ice chips, ice chips , ice chips.
I find I crave ice chips most of the time anyway.
And yes, My nausea wakes me up in the middle of the night sometimes.

Haha, all right I'm glad it's not just me. It's so annoying trying to get to sleep or waking up and wanting to stay asleep but nooo I have to eat. Or if I'm running around all day super busy and all of a sudden I realize I haven't eaten all day...oi vey.

Last time for the prep I tried doing the whole psching out my tummy....I had broth and jello and all the jazz and I'm like all right! I'm going to do this! (cause the last few previous times was when I was 17 and in the hospital and I was so horrible with it) And yeah, I was horrible again, throwing up everywhere (including on a really pretty pocketbook...sigh) and frustrating the hell out of my mom who was helping me. But I don't think I tried ice chips before, maybe that will make the difference this time :)

A lot of people throw up from the prep itself not the lack of eating. Keep a bucket near you just in case so you dont have to ruin the floor :) I am studying for a final and just had to stop and make lunch b/c I started feeling naseaus. I swear I dont get any gradual warning of hunger. It is just bam, have to eat now or else. I actually left a torts class once about 5 minutes early because I was so hungry I just knew I couldn't wait much longer. I got totally dizzy and felt like I was going to pass out. I just left and had my lunch and felt great.

I don't feel like eating when I first wake up. I have to get my meds in me first and by the time they kick in I am at work and do have to eat first thing. I eat something every 2 hours or the nausea hits me hard. Funny thing is though I do the every 2 hour thing until about 1 or 2 in the afternoon and then I don't eat for the rest of the day. Go figure!!

I am nauseaus when I'm hungry about 75% of the time.  As far as the preps, I ALWAYS get violently ill.  My next colonoscopy is in Feb and my GI is going to let me try prepping with the LoSo prep this time.  As for the clear liquids..keep in mind Egg Drop Soup is a clear liquid (as long as you don't eat the thin pieces that are in it.

I am nauseous every morning and more so since my surgeries I actually burp and the air that comers up is bile tasting. The other day I actually did vomit and I have not done as much vomiting in my whole life as I have done this year. Since my ostomy surgery I was nauseous daily and vomited at least 1 time per week and it would even occur if I ate. I think it had to do with timing of eatling although more recently I recall I was free from this issue for a short while between the reversal and the TPN starting and that was when I was not on Protonix so even though it is for GERD and reflux I wonder if it is causing me discomfort. I take that pill in the morning.

I did visacol preps in the past which I was happy that they made pill preps since I would always vomit the drink preps. I have been ok as far as keeping down other test drinks though. Yesterday I had to do my prep for my scope today. I used osmoprep this time. I began the prep really early since I have been having days where I dont have a BM and those days my fistula increases etc. When I saw the time they had me start and knowing my past history on how long it takes me to get things flowing I asked if I could start the prep earlier in the day so that on the morning of the prep (which was today) I would not have the remaining 12 pills to take. She said as long as I started the 2nd doses 12 hours after the 1st doses that would be okay so I began at 5 am and did my second round at 5pm.

I did have the fear of vomiting the pills the morning of the prep and that wasnt my biggest fear with it. My fear was that I knew I was having general anesthesia and propofol instead of demerol and verced. I have such a high tolerance for pain meds my new GI that I have been seeing as of February this year figured it would be better to do it as he did.

I had a scope in 2005 with my old GI and he did not have me do the general and in the past he learned how high my tolerance was when he did my 1st scope when I switched from him from my pedi GI. I woke up during the whole test and screamed while pulling up the mattress and everyone in the waiting room heard my the whole time...I warned him lol. The following time in 2002 he did it with double the adult dose of both versed and demerol and all went well. In my 2005 the test went well etc but because they just kept pumping me with more and more of versed and demerol I was very ill afterwards. I had been apt hunting with my hubby and my mom drove me to a possible apt and I had to fill out an application and I was so dizzy I almost fell down in the market when I went to get something with my mom quick to make at home to eat.

In the past when I have had outpatient Sx with general I find I vomit when they give you the juice so I asked that I get something for nausea upon waking I was given Zofran IV...I am allergic to compazine and said I dont want anything rectal I think you know why....most antiemetics that are not compazine are suppositories that are not IM shots etc.

GL with your prep ask about antiemetics prior to the test if you are not allergic to compazine see if they can give you that in pill form...I am not sure if they make that in pill form but it may help

holy wow. still pretty new to the site - 3 weeks! - but honestly wow. since sunday i have felt continually nauseous. since then i also increased my dose of 6mp so my doc had me come in for more blood work.. im feeling OK now and decided that im going back to the lower dose since on that i felt fine!

but i guess its silly of me but - i had NO IDEA so many of us shared nausea! i hate hate hate it! i will be sooo nauseous and then BAM im STARVING!! it's the weirdest feeling in the world. because then im SO hungry and i want to just eat everything, and then i feel good because im full, but then the nausea starts again. it's a horrible horrible cycle! this is how my week has been. it usually doesn't happen every day, usually one or two days in a row and then ill be fine for a week sometimes more.

but i feel so comforted now knowing that you guys also know what its like to HAVE to eat every few hours! and if not, watch out! this has just made my night :)

also - i can totally relate to the colonoscopy prep! the first time i did it i was TERRIFIED to drink it and vomit and it was SO gross. my mom was SO mad at me and told me to stop being a baby, i felt so badly. i ended up going outside and slamming the drink and gaging a lot, but managed to keep it down.. the last time i had this HUGE gallon jug with a consistency of soap bubbles.. flavor packets my right eye.. i did less than half the jug curled into a ball on my bed and cuddled with an orange bucket. i just heard from a friend that they have PILLS as an option.. and I'd like to know - WHY don't they only offer those pills!? if all i had to do was drink a ton of water - i know what water tastes like, give me that!! next time im going to ask for that! (hopefully not any time soon)

i wish you the BEST of luck! and know that we feel for you!

It can be a sign of hypoglycemia (low blood sugar)

I too get suffer from nausea when hungry.  However, I can say the pills are 100% better prep than that terrible drink.  I just make sure I drink tons of liquid the day I have to fast.  I fill up on beverages so I don't feel hungry.  There is a clear gatorade fruit punch that I am a huge fan of for prep day.

Feeling the nausea when hungry might be a sign of GERD. I am currently on Aciphex for GERD twice a day and my nausea seems to be under control. The CD symptoms not so much but at least the nausea part is gone. Having to get out of bed because of the nausea to eat would jive with this since you can get nausea from too much stomach acid and that happens in the early morning when your stomach is empty.
