Hi!  Deirdre again.  I'm wondering if anyone else is perpetually tired, like me.  I'm sure it has to do with my inactive lifestyle, but I wanted to run it by you guys.  I go to sleep late - midnight or one in the morning - and sleep in late - anywhere from 11.30 in the morning to one in the afternoon.  And even with all that sleep, I am still tired.  I also take naps every once in a while - not very regularly - and they're hours long - three to four hours, to be exact.  Is this normal?  Should I start exercising more?  Is this just a regular part of CF, the need to rest a lot?  Lately, I've been rather short of breath, and I'm wondering if maybe I'm even more tired because I'm working double-time to breath while going about my regular activities - like going to class or running errands.  I walk nearly everywhere, so could it be this over-exertion that is causing my extreme sleepiness?  How many hours of sleep do you get, and do you nap during the day?

Thanks for reading and/or responding!

I am always tired. I go to sleep around midnight also and usually am awake by 10 AM. But I am still tired. I even take a few naps through out the day sometimes. I think increasing exercise would definately help. But for me that's not really possible right now. I am having major hip and knee problems that PT isn't helping and was told by docs not to excercise to much. Plus it just makes it hurt worse.

Have you talked to your doctors? I know I amgoing to at my next appointment.

Hey, I have cf and sleep a whole lot too and am always tired. But the one big experience I had when I was sleeping 12 to 14 hours and always tired it ended up being because my lung function was going way down. I also wasn't being active at all and I just didn't even have enough strength to be and I couldnt breath very well. I don't know if this is what you're experiencing or not. But its still normal I think to need more sleep because you have cf, because your body might just be exhausted. But anyways I might just try being more active, but if you start to feel more weak or tired it might be your lung function.
