Spaceytracey72 -- congratulations on your new child! Adoption is a wonderful thing and I know your children are lucky to have you as a mother. What do I do to help? Not enough, I know. I'm a teacher and writer and I try to contribute to the world that kids and college students live in by helping them learn that their thoughts and feelings matter and that these deserve to be heard. I hope that by exposing them to books they learn there are other thinkers and feelers to excite them. Every year I feel I know less and every day I'm grateful to discover people who know so much more than I do.

Hi Crankypoet,

I wanted to welcome you to the healing well depression forum. As you can see we kind of speak our minds here.
To me it looks like you do a lot to help the children. You do open their minds to new things. Expression and learning is what life is about. Please don't cut yourself short. What you do is very important in this life and you should be proud of yourself. You are a wonderful person, please remember that.
Luv and hugs,

I think that is the nature of teachers....always giving, but selling themselves short. In my opinion teachers cannot be thanked enough.

So, thank you crankypoet!

There are those of us who feel that no matter what we do, we don't do enough. I feel bad that I can't take this child in NOW, and that we are stalled while I get my career going and can actually give her a stable home. It will come, though. I know it will. I keep feeling that something better is just around the bend. I just with that the bend was closer! :o)
Thanks for the kind words. I wish I could take them to heart. My depression is so crippling sometimes for my daily life. When I think about it, I feel guilty for being depressed because I know I could do more for myself and for my child and future child if I wasn't so sad all the time! Catch 22, you know!

I think that helping people to express themselves is a wonderful thing. Sometimes just knowing that someone is out there who cares what we have to say can make all the difference in the world! I am a big supporter of the written word. Having a career in linguistics and communication makes me wish that everyone could understand each other. Even those who speak the same language have a hard time understanding each other from time to time. My daughter started reading at age 4. She is in Kindergarten now and reads on a 2nd grade level. I am so proud! She also keeps a daily journal. She sometimes lets me read parts, other times, she wants it to be just for her and her stuffed animals. Hehe. I respect her privacy and encourage her to keep writing. Maybe she will be a writer someday. For now she has grand dreams of owning a pet store. Both live and stuffed. LOL
