Does anyone know about links between, or has anyone had experience with hormonal contraception and worsening feelings of depression? I'm curious about birth control pills specifically. I switched pill types about two years ago, and it was just a few months after that that I started to feel more depressed. Not that that would be the direct cause (since my diagnoses was long before that) but I wonder if that might have had an effect..... I am currently on BCP's, but am not sexually active, so I am considering going off them to see if it helps me feel any better.
Advice, suggestions, stories?

I know that birth control pills have to do with hormones. That can play a part in depression. But I never had them make me depressed, actually the opposite, but not everybody is the same and maybe the pill affects you different.

I don't think I was very much help Flop. Sorry.

Hugs,

Wow Shy,

Thank you for the website. I never had a problem with depression and birth control. I didn't realize that so many women did. That was very enlightening, again thank you.

I had no idea either Karen... it is amazing that they have not made that public yet!

Thanks for the links....I read the information and it will be something that I bring up with my doctor next time I go in. I was never told hormonal contraception mentods could have an effect on depression.....even if it hasn't been throughly studied, I wonder why my GP (who knows I have a history of depression) wouldn't at least mention that it could impact me? Something to think about and look into. Thanks again.

I was thinking the same thing Floppington.
Maybe it has not been made public enough to cause concern from your doctor?

I would bring it up to them and see what they can do.
