Hi,

I went to the Dr. on Tuesday morning. He gave me 200 mg. of mifepristone to take orally while there. He also gave me a bottle containing (2) 200 mg. pills of misoprostol (400 mg. total). I was instructed to take them orally approx. 24 hours later which I did. That was yesterday at 10 a.m. After reading about this online I don't think this Dr. gave me enough of the medication to induce the abortion. I have had some very minor cramping since then but no bleeding. It's now going on 20 hours since I took the pills and I have not lost the baby yet. Is this normal? I read that most women start the abortion within 8 hours but on the fact sheet the Dr. gave me it said bleeding could start up to 48 hours later in some women. I now feel like I am going crazy waiting for this to happen! Should I find another Dr. who is willing go give me extra misoprostol or should I wait and see what happens?

Please reply for my sanity! I need to hear some opinions on what to do!

Hi Going,

If it says that it could take up to 48 hours for this to begin, I would wait. Then if nothing happens, call the doctor.

I am sorry that you are going through this. But I guess you have to do what you have to do. Hopefully it will start working soon. Please post and let us know.

And I would like to welcome you to the depression forum on Healing Well. You have come to a good place. The members here are so kind and compassionate. Hopefully somebody who has been through this will post.

Please keep us posted as to how you are doing.
Best wishes to you.
Hugs, Karen

Thank you so much for your reply.  I guess I figured that everything would be "text book" with this but I should have known that things don't work out like that for me.  I'm only 4 weeks along so I thought that maybe this would work quickly.  Guess I was wrong.  Anyway, it's going on 28 hours now since I took the 400 mg. of misoprostol and I'm having some slight cramping.  Maybe that's a good sign.  The original Dr. I saw will only do a surgical procedure if these pills don't work even though I'm quite early in my pregnancy. It's a "one shot" thing with him. He doesn't give the option of trying more misoprostol although I've read online that many women need to take more than one set to complete the procedure.  I wonder if I should contact a different Dr. tomorrow and explain what's going on and see if he'll give me the extra misoprostol I need to move this along.

Anyway, for now I'm going to try to relax and see if that helps things along.  I have certainly worked myself up into quite a frenzy!

Hi Going,

I have the same thing, nothing is normal for me. It certainly couldn't hurt to call another doctor for another opinion if you don't think that it is working. But I would give it the full amount of time until you do.

I can see why you would be in a 'frenzy'. I probably would be too. But I am a worrier anyway.LOL And nothing ever goes easy for me. There is always something complicated when I try to do something. Especially when it comes to doctors. They have a way of being vague. I have heard other people say that. And no matter how hard you try to get answers, you just can't. At least not a straight one. But that is just my opinion.

Don't be frightened if you do end up bleeding a lot. I know two people that have done this and they had a lot of blood with clots. I don't know for sure how far along they were though. I just don't want you to be afraid. This is normal. But if you do feel concern, don't hesitate to call the doctor either.

I hope that this is helpful to you Going.

Take care,
Hugs, Karen

Going,

There is another post about medical abortions going on here at the same time as yours. She is having the same problem as you are. Maybe you two should talk to eachother about it.

Hello Going and Welcome to HealingWell, and I understand how upsetting this whole experience is for you.  I have read some conflicting reports on the dosing using this medication so you may want to talk with your physicisn.

This medications is used in other countries and has different info but according to the FDA 600mg is the right dose. I would give it the full 48 hours and then see what happens.  Try not to think so hard about it and hopefully your stress will go down.

I will say a prayer for you and I hope you will keep us posted.

Kitt

Hi Going Crazy now,
I was in the exact same boat as you, with the only difference being that I took 4 pills (I honestly don't know the mg per tablet though) - I thought it was 200 each but maybe they were 100 mg. I did bleed very slightly the night I took them (about 6-7 hours) after I took them but then absolutely nothing .... until last night. Now, it's just like a normal period. No cramping, no pain, nothing else.... I would have been 5 w 1 d - very early as well....
i thought I was that unlucky too - so I started drinking a beer!!! (Probably not the best thing... but it did relax me enough to start!!)
Just thought I would share. If you need a number to call another Doctor, i can give you mine. :)

Thank you all so much for your replies. Let me tell you how much it helps to have some input from other people. I've felt so "alone" during this because no one besides my husband really knows quite what's going on and he doesn't fully understand how it feels cause.....well....he's a man. lol

Anyway, I am having pretty intense lower back pain on and off and am starting to cramp mildly at this point. Still no bleeding but I'll take what I can get. (pretty morbid huh? lol)

I am seriously considering Stephanie's beer method if things don't kick it up a notch soon!

Thanks again for the replies! I appreciate it more than you know! Keep your fingers crossed for me! I need all the crossed fingers I can get! LOL

Karen is so right, it is good to find someone that is going throught the same thing you are and to be able to support one another is wonderful.

Blessing to both of you.

You were absolutely right sunny!  I started to bleed a tiny bit last night around 9 (it was the slightest pink color...not really "blood") but when I woke up at 5:30 this morning it was visibally red on the pad.  Right then and there most of my anxiety started to disappear.  Anyway, I've been bleeding pretty lightly since then and have had mild cramps.  Nothing intense though.  Pretty much feels like my period.  I did have a weirdish yellow discharge mixed in with the blood earlier but nothing weird since.  No clots yet though. I AM a little worried that I haven't passed anything but maybe that's still to come.

Anyway, hopefully this continues on like this and I don't endure a lot of pain.  I did get myself a BIG bottle of wine just in case though!  LOL

BTW...Karen and Kitt.....you're absolutely right about it being great when you can connect with someone going through a similar situation.  It really helps, as does the general support from people like you.  Thanks again! :-)

I think I "spoke" too soon. I just had the worst wave of cramps all of a sudden just a few minutes ago. They have subsided but it scared me quite a bit and I'm kinda dreading the next wave. I guess I'll be needing the wine afterall.

Ok...basically I haven't had any pain or major cramping since I last posted. I'm still bleeding although it's not heavy. It's not really the lightest it could be but it's not "gushing". I saw a couple of TINY little pieces of something. It looks like the uterine lining I shed during my regular period. I'm hoping this is normal and that the pill is definitely working. I am drinking wine now. It's keeping me calm and I feel pretty good. Maybe it will help me relax enough so that I can get this over with soon.

hi all, i am currently in a similar situation with goingcrazynow. I am about 4 weeks pregnant now. I took 4 200mgs of misoprostol and inserted two like 36 hours ago. After that i felt so much pain for till yesterday morning. Afterwards i experienced some pains but no bleeding. Last night i also had a feeling like i was going to have my menstruation. This continued for a while and it stopped. Though i still feel some pains but no bleeding yet.

Pls, can the misoprostol still work or what should i do? Pls this is driving me crazy.
