Here you go Darren,  I looked it up on wickapedia for you:

Labor Day is a United States federal holiday observed on the first Monday in September. The holiday originated in 1882 as the Central Labor Union (of New York City) sought to create "a day off for the working citizens".

Congress made Labor Day a federal holiday in 1894.[1] All fifty states have made Labor Day a state holiday.

Traditionally, Labor Day is celebrated by most Americans as the symbolic end of the summer.

I guess that it kind of sums it up for you.

Hugs,  ...Karen

Karen,

You are right on.  When I was in grade school we always had a Labor Day Parade.  All the laborers would march in the parade and they would have fire engines, and police cars and members of local unions as well as our high school bands.

The grade school kids could be in the parade too.  After the parade we had a picnic.

Take care all and thanks Karen..................right now things are quiet here at home.

Love
Kitt
