hello.. im a new member and wish to know about what classifies as depression;
for the last 6 months to a year i have been under constant stress and a lot of events have occurred...
anyone on how to deal with this would be great;
im only young and not sure how to handle and deal with this.

Welcome lolleylegs 91 , there alot of caring people here to listen and give their advice.
Are you only depressed in these sttressful situations, or is all the time.
For me depression is constant when im depresssee no matter whats going on around me. But i am on medications that help me.  not all people need medication, haveing someone to talk is the best therapy, i have a couple close friends i can talk to that help me, and visa versa i help them.
A therapist is ideal, but not always possible depending on your situation, so I am blessed to have a couple of close freinds who will listen and my online friends here who help me through alot too.
I know others will be by and introduce them sleves soon, and have much advice and caring to offer, keep on posting idea

Hello lolleylegs,

What a cute screen name! :) I am new on here too. I have been under some pretty terrible stress.

But even in the midst of terrible stress I can usually find something to make me happy.

Look around you: Do you have a cat or a dog to pet? Perhaps a nice neighbors pet. Wagging a tail or purring and welcoming you makes me happy.

Or the birds singing outside - listen to their happiness.
Or the sun on my face.

Even in the midst of terrible things, there can be happiness.

Do something fun for you. Read a book, chew a delicious piece of gum. Music is very powerful: put on tunes that inspire you and make you want to be and live again!

There are always options for a bright and happy future.

Hey Lollylegs,

You have gotten some very good advice. Coming here really helps me. It is nice to read that you aren't the only one going through these things. I sure hope that you feel better soon.

Depression is generally ranked in terms of severity -- mild, moderate, or severe. The degree of your depression, which your doctor can determine, influences how you are treated. Symptoms of depression include:

Sleep disturbances -- usually insomnia (for example, consistently waking up very early in the morning) but may be excessive sleeping

A dramatic change in appetite, often resulting in either weight gain or weight loss

Fatigue and lack of energy

Feelings of worthlessness, self-hate, and inappropriate guilt

Extreme difficulty concentrating

Agitation, restlessness, and irritability OR inactivity and withdrawal from usual activities

Recurring thoughts of death or suicide

Feelings of hopelessness and helplessness

Major depression -- five or more symptoms listed above must be present for at least 2 weeks, but tends to continue for 20 weeks. (A mood disorder is classified as minor depression if less than five depressive symptoms are present for at least 2 weeks.)

I think the first thing you should do is see your physician and see if you have Depression .

If you do there is therapy and medications that may help you as well as coming here and talking to us.

Please know coming here is a wonderful and courageous step. You are voicing your fears so you know what they are.
