HI ALL
I HAVE TAKEN ZOLOFT FOR 16 MONTHS ALSO GAINED 24 PDS AND HATE IT. I ALSO QUIT SMOKING BEFORE I EVER TOOK ZOLOFT. SO I FIGURE IT WAS A COMBINATION OF BOTH. WELL NOW I'M FED UP I HAVE DONE WEIGHT WATCHERS FOR 1 MONTH LOST NOTHING HAVE NOW BEEN DOING 1200 CALORIES AND I AM HUNGRY ON THAT AMOUNT. I HAD MY THYROID CHECKED AND GLUCOSE JUST TO MAKE SURE ALL WAS OK,AND IT WAS. I HAD CUT BACK MY ZOLOFT TO 12 MGS. EVERY OTHER DAY. BEEN DOING THAT FOR 1 MONTH NOW AND EXERCISING LIKE CRAZY AND NO WEIGHT LOSS. I'M A PERSON WHO HAS ALMOST ALWAYS WEIGHED 130 AND I WANT THE WEIGHT OFF ALSO. MY NURSE PRACT. SUGGESTS I STOP THE ZOLOFT FOR 2 WEEKS AND SEE IF I LOSE. AS LONG AS MY PANIC ATTACKS DON'T RETURN I'LL BE ABLE TO STAY OFF THEM. WISH ME LUCK. VERY FRUSTRATED.       KJM

Hello KJM,

There is another post on this page re Zoloft and weight loss.  You are like me, no matter what it does for others, I will never melt away.

I hope your weaning helps.

Keep posting, we are here for you.

HI KITT I HOPE IT HELPS ALSO AND WORKS. BECAUSE I REALLY WANT THIS WEIGHT OFF. I QUIT SMOKING TO GET HEALTHIER. AND NOW WEIGHT GAIN MAKES NO SENSE. I DO WANT TO SAY AT THE TIME WHEN I STARTED ON ZOLOFT, IT DID HELP ME A LOT BECAUSE YOU HAVE TO TREAT PANIC ATTACKS, THEY ARE SERIOUS. SO MAYBE I'M OVER IT NOW. I'LL KEEP IN TOUCH. THANKS SO MUCH KJM

Hey guys!

I am glad to hear that other people have gained weight on Zoloft. I have been taking Zoloft for about 12 months and have gained around 21 pounds. I really haven't changed my diet or exercise but have been gaining weight. It seems the more I diet or exercise, the worse it gets. I spoke to my doctor twice, and he relays it has nothing to do with the medication. Like other post, I hate the way I look even though my anxiety is better.

mack,

Welcome to HealingWell.  I am so glad you found us. My Pdoc tells me the same thing, it is not the medication causing.

I would like to write an RX for her and see how it goes.

You will find that members write over and over the ADs put on weight.

My problem is I am not happier at this weight and in fact I don't want to go out looking like this so people can say" Put on a few pounds huh?"

Welcome to  our world.

Kitt

I certainly appreciate the welcome.

I feel your pain at our last national conference, some of my clients make the comment about adding a few pounds. It wasn't actually what I was wanting to hear.

I plan on reducing my dose until I am completely off Zoloft. I have a family history of heart attacks and diabetes. That is why I have really tried to stay in shape and the extra 20 pounds surely is not  helping.

I am glad to hear that I am not the only person who has had this experience.

HI ALL THANKS FOR CHECKING IN ON ME ,WELL IT HAS BEEN 21 DAYS SINCE I WEENED OFF THE ZOLOFT, I WAS NERVOUS about IT JUST BECAUSE I WAS SCARED THE PANIC ATTACKS WOULD COME BACK. HAVEN'T HAD ONE, I'M SO GLAD. FEELING OK. HAVEN'T LOST A POUND BUT HAVEN'T GAINED ANY. I HAVE NEVER EXERCISED SO HARD IN ALL MY LIFE TRIED WEIGHT WATCHERS TRIED 1400 AND 1200 CALORIES. I AM NOT A SIT AROUND PERSON. THE INTENSE
WORKOUT IS REALLY HURTING MY JOINTS SO I TAKE TYLENOL AND KEEP GOING. IT AMAZES ME HOW SOME DRS SAY IT'S NOT THE MEDS AND MY NURSE PRACTITONER SAID MOST DEFENITE IT WAS. SHE SUGGEST THE WEENING PROCESS. SO IF ANY ONE OUT THERE HAS GONE OFF AND LOST WEIGHT PLEASE LOOKING FOR SUGGESTIONS ON HOW.  ALL OF US HAVE TO HANG IN THERE.  HAS TO BE AN ANSWER SOMEWHERE.
