My husband doesn't want to file his claim that he went to a psychiatrist and was diagnosed with Depression/dystemia.  He says the doctor recommended that he not file the claim because it could effect his coverage.  He also said she recommended that he go to a "mom and pop" pharmacy to get his Lexipro.  He is a small business owner and we have good health insurance - Humana PPO and Exec-U-Care insurance for any remaining balances or out-of-network doctors.  Is this true or does he not want the h.r. person and his business partner to know (ego)?  The visit alone to the psychiatrist was $400, and he has a follow-up.  In addition, he'll probably be on Lexipro for a while so as some of you know, it's expensive!

Thanks for letting me know!

That is a tough one. I really don't see why she wouldn't want him to let his insurance company know. Sometimes the ins doesn't have to pay the full balance, and the doctors accept that. But would that be the case? There must be a good reason. Would the ins co drop him if they knew that he was depressed?

I am so sorry that I am not much help. Hopefully somebody will come along that knows more.

Hugs, Karen

From my own experience the insurance company did not drop me and I worked for 26 years, 24 years with a dx of depression which I took meds for and saw Pdocs.

If you hide it from the insurance company and they find out that might put up a red flag for the company.

I am sruprised a professional would give that kind of info.  Of course this way she can charge you the full amount and you will pay out of pocket..........insurance companies discount the charges so she would not make as much money.

Just my 2 cents.
