I sleep all day everyday, go out in the garage and smoke on and off and don't do anything but drive my kids to and from school. I have no friends and only have contact with people when I go to the store. I am 40 and have 3 kids because my husband has been abusive and unfaithful to me we have not been intimate in 3years, I know I can't believe it either. Anyway, I started prozac 3 days ago 10ml tab everymorning for 2 wks then up it to 20ml tabs. I was on a high dose of Effexor but I had thoughts of  it was crazy so I immediately stopped taking it. I was diagnosed after a one hour session with a doctor as MDD. It seems that when I start taking the medication I get so much worse. Can anyone help me with some suggestions. I cannot cope with being like this anymore!!!

Thanks,
D

HI Onelove,

I am so sorry but I had to delete a couple words in your post. We are not alowed to talk about suicide or self harm.

You need to give the prozac a chance to work. It usually takes four to six weeks to get the full benefit from those types of medications. I take effexor, 375mg each day. I have been on it for a long time and it has helped me. I am sorry that it didn't work for you. I hope that the prozac does.

In the meantime keep posting as we are here for you. Please try to relax and try to think good thoughts. It might take a little while, but I think that the prozac will be helping you.

Best wishes for feeling better.

Hugs, Karen

Give Prozac a chance. It saved my life!!! I am now on Celexa...a member of the Prozac family. Get to a therapist and tell him how you really feel. Keep posting..we will write to you and be your new Cyber friends!

You are so very welcome

Keep posting we are here for you. This is a good forum, everybody here is so kind and understanding. I guess because we have all been there at one time or another.

I am glad that you are going to give the prozac a chance, and if it doesn't work for you, there are many different antidepressants out there, sometimes it is trial and error for a while.

Best wishes,
hugs, Karen

Hi Onelove

You have come to the right forum and keep posting here to let us now how you are getting on. I took prozac for a few weeks but it did not agree with me and i changed to Citalopram(Celexa). Give the prozac a chance every one is different and you may have to try a few different A/D before you find the right one for you. I have just switched to Effexor and i am also taking Mirtazipine. I had some CAT therapy and found this really helped me its good to talk to someone and along with the medication you can make progress this maybe something you could think about.

Take Care

Hey Ben,

Thanks for the reply, I will give the prozac a chance. So how is the Effexor and Mirtazpine working for you? Effexor had a terrible effect on me.... so I stopped taking it after a couple of days. Maybe it was the high dosage so my doctor started me off on a low dose of prozac 10ml. So what is CAT therapy? I have been to a lot of therapists in my life but didn't seem to help too much. I hope that your day is going good for you.

Thanks,
D

Hi onelove

No problem if you need to talk we are here for you. I only started on the Venlafaxine (Effexor xl) yesterday at 75mg so its hard to say at the moment if it is working will probably take a few days to adjust, i am feeling a bit sick today but put this down to the side effects. I have taken Mirtazipine for a while now and i am taking the max dose of 45mg at night time to help me sleep but i dont seem to be getting much sleep at the moment. I have to goto doctors in two weeks and might increase venlafaxine to 150mg and reduce mirtazipine to 30mg i also take Tamazipam to help when i need it.

I really hope the prozac works for you, i now a lot of people who have had good results from prozac. CAT (cognitive analytic therapy) therapy is a therapy which looks back at the past and finds out were all the problems began then looks at how to sort these problems out and they give you coping techniques so that you can decrease your symptoms. I found this very helpful but found that just as it was really helping me the sessions finished. I am going back to the mental health team in a couple off weeks for a follow up meeting and my doctor now trying to get me on some CBT therapy. I think that if you get the right meds and the right therapy you can make real progress. Small steps to big improvment.

Keep us posted D,

Take care

Thanks a lot Ben,

I really appreciate your replies, believe me! I feel a little better today after taking my medication, but am sleeping a lot still. It's nice to talk to another "ADULT" if you know what I mean.:) My husband does not even speak to me unless necessary. But that is a whole other story........
Through this whole ordeal (I'll call it) I started to try spirituality as a way to love me and cope. Such as Eckhart Tolle books ect. I don't know if you heard of him from Oprah. But it seems when something else goes sour I go right back to the "black hole" and I don't recover well from setbacks. Have you tried meditation when laying down and going to sleep? I am going to try it. The CAT thearapy sounds interesting because I don't think I learned from my mistakes in the past very well (smile). It seems I keep repeating them (smile). Don't laugh but what is CBT therapy? Is Tamazipam a sleep aid also? As you can see I am new at all this depression medical terminology(Smile). I went to the Depression clinic at UofM here and to be totally honest, I did not care for my doctor. He made me feel judged about my situaiton so I really don't know where else to go for a doctor. I'll just check the internet. Well, thanks for the reply and I hope you get a good nights sleep tonight.

Thanks,
D

Hi D

No worries i am here to listen. I am glad you are feeling a little better today and hope you continue to feel better i found that when i first started taking meds that i did feel tired all the time and i still do, this is a real problem for me as i find when i am tired my mood gets very low and my anxiety gets worse.

Im sorry to hear you dont have support from your husband but you will get support here on HW. I do try relaxation techniques before i goto bed which is something i learned in therapy but my insomnia is still a real problem for me. I to find that if something goes wrong i beat myself up about it and blow it out of proportion and this affects my depression and anxiety I think we need to try and stay positive and look to the future. CBT stand for Cognitive behavioural therapy which is like CAT but looks more at whats going on now this is also a good therapy and seems to get good results. There are so many different meds out there it does take a while to find out about them all, Tamazipam is in a class of drugs called benzodiazepines which are anti anxiety drugs they do work well and can aid sleep but on the down side they are addictive.

I now what you mean about doctors i have changed my doctor a number of times until i found one i liked you should do the same, it is importent to have someone you can see on a regular basis.

Take care

Ben

unhappy32,

Hi, this is Kitt

I am so glad you are giving the med a chance.  I know I had to try 2-3 one time as everyone caused me to be dizzy and feel ill. I was stumbling into the walls in our hallway.

You have found a wonderful group of people to help you through the tough times so please stick with us.

WE are here to support you so believe you will be OK.

Gentle Hugs
Kitt

Thanks Ben and Kit,

I hope you both are doing well. You know what, I think the medicine is working today because my husband went bazirk for about 20 min over a lost remote and I just was like OH, while he went on a raving tantrum.

I actually started to laugh too, hmmmmm.
Hope you guys are doing well,

Thanks for your support,
D

It sound like your home life is not to health you might think about how you can change it.You have to put your health first at this time.I get the idea that your husband has some problams of his own, just know that you cant help him you can only help yourself.

Thanks mom9mom for your reply,

Your right home life is not healthy one bit and Divorce is imminent unless God performs a miracle....
Looking at what you have been through has humbled me a lot, I believe what's hurting me the most is Isolation. It is driving me crazy......... Today I am not feeling good at all, I have to do something different.

Thanks for the support

Hi D

Sorry to hear a divorce is imminent. The isolation cant be doing your health any good keep posting here and tell us how you are getting on. When you start a new med you can feel a bit up and down while your brain adjusts to the new medication. I am going through a change in my medication and i am feeling down today and a bit spaced out due to no sleep last night.

Stick in there, take care D

Hey Ben,

Good afternoon, well, I don't know where you are but here it 4:04 p m. First and foremost you said you are feeling down today, it looks like we're in the same boat, I pray you feel better fast. Is it normal to feel like your head is in a vice???? This is what I've been feeling all day long....... Did you get any sleep at all??? I remember when I used to have insomnia as well, I would get up at 2 am or 3 am and not go back to sleep. Maybe your getting some sleep right now, (cross-fingers) I may attempt to get back on the treadmill today. Feel better!

Hi

I live in the uk. It takes a few weeks to adjust to medication and you can get a number off side effects which usually ease after a couple of weeks. I only got about 2 hrs sleep last night so hopefully get more tonight.

Hey,

Wow, your in the UK. England, Ireland, Wales, or Scotland? My mom and dad took a trip ten years ago to Ireland and they said it was the best trip of their lives..... My headache is wearing down now maybe the med is wearing off from this morning. When I worked midnights I got 2 hrs sleep a day so I know how you are feeling.

Have a sleep-full night,

D

Sorry about the big D. but sometimes its for the best.I think that for alot of us with depression have to deal with lonelyness most of the time. Its hard to get close to other people when you are feeling so down.I dont know how your weather is where you live but I think alot of us are having more problams because of the change in the sessions. It has been blowing,raining,snowing(2 days),then we will get farelly warm for a day or two then back to the other stuff. That always makes me hurt more when it bounces around like that then I start feeling more depressed.Hope you all start feeling better and that you get more sleep. That is one thing I dont worry about because my body loves to sleep and it gets alot of it.

Thanks mom9mom,

Actually today its going to be 70 degrees! That's warm for this time of year. I really want to live more. One of the effects the depression has on me is I curl up in a comforter and sleep all day. I am tired of living like this. I hope the weather is good today where your at. Take care and feel good:)

Thanks,
D

I live in Idaho so the weather is up and down at this time of the year.Once it gets real cold and stays that way (With no rain)its not so bad but when it changes all over the place I just hurt all over. Then I get more depressed.Three days ago it was in the high 50`s for the last couple of days it has rained off and on and the wind has been blowing.Last week it snowed.See what I am saying.
