Hi All! I have had anxiety for about 12 years.. and just recently it has upgraded to full blown panic attacks everyday.. I always hated taking medication( I tried several anti-depressants but only for about 2 weeks because I hated the side effects!)  So this time I am totally sick of the way I am feeling! My doctor has given me Cipralex and I have started it at 2.5mg. I have only been on it for 3 days but I am sooo sensitive to medication that I have several side effects already! I have the dry mouth, increased anxiety!, INSOMNIA (which is awful), dizziness etcc.. I know that people have said the side effects will usually go away after about 2 weeks, but is this really true??!! Especially the increase anxiety ( which I take ativan also for) . The insomnia is killing me too! (which I also take the ativan for).  Can anybody give me any reasurrance that this is what you went through and that in about a month I will be anxiety free???
I am trying my best this time to stick with it and stay on Cipralex.

Hi AnxietyGrl,

Yes the side effects should go away in a couple of weeks and often it takes four to six weeks for the full effect of the antidepressant. So try to be patient.

We also have a wonderful anxiety forum, that is if you would like to check it out. You can post on both if you would like to.

It is so hard when going through depression. It takes time to get it under control, so try to be patient. We are here for you, so keep posting.

Anxiety is also difficult. I think that maybe if the ativan isn't working well enough, maybe you need to try something else, but I would wait it out and see what happens after a couple of weeks. If the anxiety isn't letting up, I would call the doctor back and see if there is anything that you should change. There are antidepressants that also help with the anxiety.

The cipralex must be relatively new, it isn't in my pill book. I will look on internet and see if I can find any information for you about it.

I hope that you feel better soon.

Keep posting,

Hugs, Karen
I found the medication under generic name "escitalopram" and the side effects are nervousness and insomnia.  That should go away in a couple of weeks, but if it doesn't, I would call your doctor.  It might not be the right medication for you.  Best wishes...

HI Anxiety Girl,

Everyone does react different to meds and if you can tough it out I would give the Lexapro a chance.  I have read posts by members who love this medication.

I took it for a short time and felt better in a week, then a week later I was down agian so we increased dose to 20 mg and I did feel better but it did not hold for me.

Would it not be wonderful if we could kick all of the Depression and anxiety to the curb.

Welcome to our family.  We are very pleased to have you with us.
