Good morning everybody,

When it gets cold like this, I think about my garden in the summer.  I have two greenhouses from my previous business and I try to fill one of them up with plants.

How many of you like to garden and what kind of plants do you like to grow?

I even brought in some plants for wintering over inside if it works.  I have sage, rosemary and some different geraniums.  I want to see if they will make it until spring.  I also have three hibiscus that I bring in every year.

Gardening is so relaxing and I think that is why I love it so.

Have a wonderful day today.

Hugs, Karen

I would be happy to Kitt. I don't know as much as some, but I do know a few things and have books to look up the things that I don't know.

If you have hostas, you must have a shady area, I can't even keep them going. Not taking care of them like I should.

Have a great day.

Hugs, Karen

Kitt,

What growing zone are you in? We are in four. Not too much to chose from. It gets cold where we live. Most of northern MI is five and six. We are a little spot on the map that is a four because we set so low. Can't grow all of the cool flowers that everybody else can. They don't come back the next year like they would anywhere else.

Hi Karen,  as I have said before gardening is one of my favorite hobbies.  I have many rose bushes in all colors from white, pink, orange, yellow, dark red and american beauty.  I plant annuals, usually geraniums, various kinds of coleus for their unusual colors, new guinea impatiens, blue bells and trim plants like ivy or licorice. I have many other annuals, too many to mention, love lobilia. Indoors I love my bromeliads.  They are incredible and so easy.  They need very little water as they are like a cactus but so pretty.  I have one bromeliad that I have had for 3 yrs.  It keeps growing.  It gets off shoots which are called kikis.
Well, now I am off to dinner to celebrate my oldest son's 35th birthday.  Can't believe I have a child that old!

Reading about your plants makes me think of warm weather. I love all of that. I started some lobelia from seed this year and let it go crazy in my flower box. Also some alissym (sp). I have pictures I think. My husband built me a huge box in one greenhouse and I just fill it with everything. I have purple petunias that seed every year and snapdragons. It is like a bonus. I brought in an ivy geranium that I have had for years. It is called nutmeg lavender. It smells like nutmeg and has lavender flowers. I like one called taj mahal. It is like a dark burgandy flower. I don't know if that one is going to make it another year, but I am trying. I am trying to save my bacopa too, but it doesn't look too good.

I have a cactus orchid, but it has never bloomed. It is called night cerus. There is another name for it but I can't remember what it is. It is suppose to make a huge white fragrant flower that opens at night. But like I say, I have never gotten it to bloom, so I have never seen it. I have had it for over five years.

I guess I have rattled on about flowers enough. I had roses when I had my business, but when I got fibromyalgia, I quit taking care of them. They are surely a lot of work to grow here. It gets too cold in the winter.

I hope that you have a good night.

Hugs, Karen

Hi Karen, I have a friend who is a florist and she seems to know just about everything about flowers.  I am going to ask her how to get your orchid blooming.  She hopefully will know what do and I will post you on any instructions.  Just hope she knows this one!

Hugs, Aurora

Thanks Aurora,

Because I am about to give up on it. I have had this plant forever it seems like.

It would be a miracle if I could get it to bloom. I had a regular orchid last year that bloomed throughout the winter. I can't remember the name of it, but I think it was called a moth orchid. It started with a P.

You are so wonderful.

Luv and hugs, Karen
