It’s my first post so be nice!  J

My wife and I have been married for 11 years and our marriage is great most of the time.  We have a boy(5) and a girl(7) and we love them infinitely of course.   I am a successful 39 year old rocket and software engineer with an anger problem…at least I am beginning to think I am having an anger problem.  Years ago..BK (Before kids) I stayed home from work one day to finish staining some cabinetry that my wife and I bought.  I had been work on this stiff for a few days and it was supposed to have been finished by this time so I was already a little iterated.  Anyway, I was in the back yard applying the stain and things were just not working out.  My anger rose so quickly and violently it still scares me to think about it all these years later.  I picked up the curio cabinet and slung it across the yard destroying it in the process.  I then proceeded to take my claw hammer and destroy the rest of the furniture and a $650 Echo backpack leaf blower!!  I then proceeded into the house, after I thought I had calmed down, and destroyed several hundred $$ worth of hand painted ceramic figurines from Hungary.  I then called my wife and told her to come home to stop me form committing suicide!!!  Well I got over it and our marriage continued…but I still, every 6 months to a year, go into theses one or two day long temper tantrums over the simplest things.  Last October the wife and kids and I were taking a Disney cruise and two days before leaving  I explode because my son dropped a two-way radio on the floor and broks it.  I then took both of the radios and smashed them on the floor right in front of my kids!!!  They were terrified!!  I slept in the bed without moving the next two days and we barely made the cruise.   Well another episode happened again last night and today.  My wife and I have been nit picking each other for a couple of weeks and it got real bad last night.   She slept in the other room and this morning when she started getting ready for church I just stayed in my bed.  When she and the kids left I punched a hole in my headboard, threw the remote at my $1200 LCD TV and missed, thank  God!   I took my RayBan sunglasses and destroyed them.  Anyway, I have been feeling much better tonight and actually had a good evening with my family, but I obviously have a problem!!! What should I do?  Do I need meds?  Should I see a doc?

Hi Camperman,

First of all, you are noticing your problem and that is the first step.

Yes I think you should talk to somebody about this. Start with your doctor or pdoc if you have one. Medications and anger management is probably the way to go. I use to have a bad temper and the first thing I would do is break the things I loved the most. I always regretted it. So yes, I think that you would benefit from some help.

This is an easy problem to solve. You will learn to think differently. But be honest with your doctor, as you were here. That is the only way to get better.

I wish you the best my friend. You can do this.

Thanks for posting, you have come to a good place. We all understand what you are going through and we know that you can get better. You have a beautiful family so the sooner you get help the better. And medication has worked for me.

Hugs, Karen
