I am still having issues with the maintenance guy.  A few things have changed, but I am begining to feel like the stepchild.  I know my job is secure, and I am very grateful for that, especially since the economy is pretty bad.  However, I also have ADHD and anxiety.  I do not remember everything.  There are some things that I do not feel I need to tell our maintenance guy.  For example, we have a tenant that has problems with the tenants above them.  I do not think the tenants above them are a problem.  I called the maintenance guy and told him I needed him to go into this tenants apt. to check something (the one who complains).  He asked me if they have any problems with rent history.  That has nothing to do with the situation at all.  Personally, I do not think it is any of his business.  I have another tenant who had a fire in their fireplace and became sick.  We are all electric so no gas was involved.  The maint. guy went to check on it and was working on finding someone who could come and check it.  I called the tenants about 8pm one eve. about something totally different and told them we were working on finding someone to check their fireplace.  She said they had a fire going and were not having any problems.  The next day we had a meeting.  The subject was brought up.  I mentioned what the tenants told me the night before.  The maintenance guy got upset because I had not told him.  It never once occured to me to call him at home at 8pm to tell him they had a fire going and were not having any problems.  I feel I need to contact him if I am going to sneeze.   I updated the board in the office regarding vacancies.  He can come in and look at it.  He did today and got upset because I had not told him.  I cannot work like this.  I like the guy and he does a good job but he is not in charge, although he believes he does.  He has even told tenants that certain things will not happen while he is in charge.  A tenant asked that her carpets be cleaned.  I got the ok from the owners.  I am working on setting it up with our carpet cleaner.  The maintenance guy got upset with me today because this tenants apt. is a mess and I should have known that.  Am I suppose to go over to tenants apts. everytime they want something done first?  I need to stop here because I can feel my blood pressure going up and I am getting more and more upset.

Thanks for listening!

chelsi, just remember it's not your fault.. most jobs are stresfull and there is always loose ends you have to tie up here and there, as you go this is life.. it's normal to have these kinds of situations.. also remember that there is tons of jobs that are even more stressfull than yours, imagine working on a crane in a construction site and people's lifes are at stake or being a doctor or being even a nurse responsible to care for a very sick person who's about to die ... there is so many posibilaties.. remember your not alone we all have problems at our workplace, sometimes you have a nasty boss or a nasty customer to please. sometimes I get erritated when the phone rings and I am stressed at work... I feel like taking the phone off line sometimes lol. but we have to deal with it, comes with the job. have a nice day!

I would just keep doing what you are doing, let him get upset. You know what your job is and you are doing it. He should stick to his, but it sounds like he is nosey.

Start writing things down so that you will remember them. That is what I have to do.

I hope that you have a good day.

I went over to the owners house tonite. I asked them what exactly suppose to tell him. He (owner) said I was imagining things. I told them about him wanting to know if a certain tenant paid rent on time as he needed to know what he was up against. She (co-owner) said she saw his side. I asked if I was suppose to tell him when anyone is late on their rent. He said no, that was a stupid question. Of course I did not mean it literally. He then said the maintenance guy does not want me to tell him everything. So, I guess I am delusional. It does not do me any good to talk to him about it. Of course I am the one there and knows what goes on. I am just afraid that I am going to lose my patience with the maintenance guy and say something I shouldn't. I think he realizes that he can get away with treating me this way but will do what ever the owners say.

Maybe you should go over what he is suppose to do and what you are suppose to do. He is maintainance, not the boss. Try to do it in a calm manner and maybe he will understand. It sounds still like he would like to take over everything. You might have to just ignore a lot of what he says in order to accomplish that.

It sounds like you are caught between a rock and a hard place, and I truly hope that you can get this straightened out so that things will run more smoothly. Let him know that you are doing your job and that he should do his. In a polite way. I really hope that you can get things the way that they are suppose to be. Did you let the people know that he gets upset when you don't let him know what is going on. Even though it doesn't pertain to him?

Best wishes,

Hugs, Karen
