hi,
my father has severe depression. Since he is a new immigrant to the US from india. He does not have medical insurance and hence cant see a dr here. He is too old to work so has no access to medical.

He has to get treatment from back home and the problem is that he only stays there for about 3 months a year.

He has had many medications but nothing seems to help. It has been 2 years. He is 72 and is getting weaker by the day even though he is getting good nourishment. When he is lving with us kids he can be forced to eat, drink, wash, shower etc however, when alone back home with my mother he doesn't do anything. He has started lying about doing all these things and also has many phobia's.

I dont know what to do, can someone help me. His MRI was done and the result was 'small areas of multiple ischaemic infarcts'

What treatment needs to be done, where to go etc. I am so confused and scared that things will be like this forever.

Can someone help me?

Hi,
I am sorry that your father has been so ill for so long. It is hard to see someone you care about so ill.
Here are a few suggestions, I had a simular situation with a family member this yr myself.
He had no job, money insurance, but was very depressed.
First, try and look for county sponsered  programs for the Mentally ill.
I myself called the local crisis number for him, and they were very helpful to me.
It sometimes takes a while to get an appointment thru the county, but what other opion is there right ?
I also paid out of my pocket to our DR for a few office visits. I knew that he needed to do this before his appointment for the county. He like your father was very ill.
We have had a family Dr for yrs, and knows that I have suffered with this beast myself many of times.  He saw my family member, and treated him, but I paid for the office visits.
Expensive, yes, but he was very very ill and had NO money.
Walmart has five dollar RX, and Dr's have samples remember that.
I hope that this will helps. Let us know how things work out for your father.

Hi Sherbym,

Welcome to the HealingWell depression forum. I think that you got some very good advice here. There are many county and state funded programs that could help your father. So I would check with Human Resources in your area. They have to help him. Local mental health is another way to go.

I wish you the very best. You and your father will be in my thoughts and prayers.

Keep posting.

Hugs, Karen

Hello Sherbym,

Welcome to HealingWell and the Depression forum.  I am so sorry your Father is not doing well.  It must be very hard for all of you and He is fortunate to have you to care so much for him.

Good advice from panic queen.  I hope others that have some experience with this same problem have some ideas for you.

Gentle Hugs
Kitt
