I am a nurse and I have researched on the web the indications and general responses to ECT, but I would like to know some of your personal experiences some of you have had.

My daughter is 34 and has become resistant to antidepressants and I have brought up the option of ECT to her, but have been met with great resistance.  Please help me by expanding my knowledge base by giving me information regarding some of your personal, family or friend's experiences to this contoversial treatment.

All responses are so welcomed and greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Is this the same as electic shock therapy? I am truly scared of that. I understand you lose part of your memory.

Let me know.

Lindaloo

I had a friend who had the treatments and the last I heard it has helped her. During the treatments she appeared to have a flat affect but once they got her Depression undercontrol so she could benefit from therapy she did much better.

She was anorexic and was down to 80 lbs which the physicians felt was due to her depression so she was in dire straights.

She has made some drastic changes in her life now that she has become better.

I hope this helps you in some small way.

Gentle Hugs

Kitt
