Hi. I'm new to the boards. But not new to depression/anxiety, fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue.

I did great for years on zoloft then switched to lexapro when the zoloft stopped working (breakthrough anxiety). Anyway, I've been through a tough time lately, divorce, moving, kids moving out of the house and now my ex is remarrying. I was also recently diagnosed with dysautonomia.

I was taken off all ADs and my hormone replacement cold turkey back in October when I had one recorded non sustained ventricular tachycardia on a Cardionet monitor. I think after being on ads for so long that this kicked my body out of wack.

Now, I'm seeing a psychiatrist, who wants me to start Paxil at 5mg. I'm scared out of my mind. I have read nothing but horror stories about the Paxil  I do also take klonopin .5mg 3 times a day.

Are there any of you who take Paxil and like the results? I tried going back on Zoloft and was majorly anxious.

Thank you so much for allowing me to post my question.

I take Paxil at 10 mg. which is still not a large amount. But, I havent had any kind of side effects. Its been about 6 months or so...I noticed improvement. After a while I noticed a little breakthrough anxiety and such. But, overall it has helped. I havent had any bad experiences with it.

btw, welcome to the boards, post whenever you need, we are here for you!

Hi Ruekat,

Welcome to the HealingWell Depression Forum. I am so glad to have you join us. I also have fibromyalgia and I understand your pain. I hope that yours is tolerable.

I took paxil years ago. It worked well for me except for sexual side effects (not being able to have an orgasm). Other than that it was a wonderful antidepressant, but needless to say I switched. Zoloft was hard for me to take due to diahrrea, severe. So I ended up on effexor and have been taking that for close to twenty years. Wow that makes me feel very old..lol...

I hope that the paxil works for you. And I hope that you don't have the side effects that I had. Let us know how it goes. And hopefully more people will reply with good news for you.

Take care,

Hugs, Karen

Thank you both so much for the warm welcome and for making me feel better about the Paxil. Karen, I know what you mean. I tried the Zoloft last month again for 3 days and had wicked diarrhea which I never experienced before. Right now sexual side effects are not an issue as there is no one else in my life right now!

And thanks Tennisdoc! I need to get rid of this anxiety/depression.

Have either one of you noticed any palpitiations or increased anxiety when first starting on the Paxil? Can you tell I'm scared to death to take this stuff?

Hugs back!

Ruekat

Your Welcome! I never "noticed" any palpitations or increased anything, no diarrhea, no anything. I felt better, about a week later, I suppose. I didnt notice any side effects when I first started it. Im fortunate that Im not really cautious when it comes to meds, but you are not alone. It is very common to be cautious about taking a new med. Many, many people on here are the same way. Its normal. You just have to weigh your options and take different things into consideration and decide if taking it is worth it.

Also, I have Fibromyalgia as well. So, I can understand that as well. If you need anything, let us know! Take Care

Just so you know, I never had any palpatations either. Other than the one thing, it worked well.

I hope that it works for you.

Hugs, Karen

Just a quick footnote I didn't start the Paxil yet! I have a call into the dr with questions that I felt she didn't adequately answer. And I also forgot to mention that my script is for generic.

Do any of you take the generic? I usually only get brand, but now my insurance doesn't cover brand if generics exist. I remember when I was on zoloft and tried the generic I hated it. But, perhaps since I've never had the "real" Paxil I won't know the difference?

Thanks again!

49 years old. Diagnosed with fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue nearly 9 years ago. Recently diagnosed with dysautonomia. Have two lovely daughters who are on their own. Divorced (not my choice). Went through early menopause, was on BHRT for 5 years. Currently taking Klonopin .5mg 3 times a day. Hopefully, with enough courage, I will begin my Paxil journey. Suffer with Depression/anxiety and just want it to go away!

Thankful for finding this forum board. And the warm welcomes I have received.
