Hi. I started my Paxil (generic) journey 7 days ago. Today would have been the 8th but I felt so lousy I just couldn't put the pill in my mouth. Well, all day long I've been having head zaps (I was having them even on the Paxil) and not feeling great. Heart's a bit racey

Called my shrink (I will be looking for another) and she said it's impossible to have withdrawal effects since I was only on the drug for 7 days and at only 5 mgs. I want to go back on because I need my life back, but the side effects were getting to me. Burning down my arms, chest, back of neck, and a horrid headache.

Please, can you have withdrawals that fast or is it all in my head? I'm debating about taking a small dose prior to bed.

Thank you so much for your prompt responses.

Ruekat,

Have you changed anything else recently? The head zaps do sound like a withdrawal to me. I feel them if I don't take my Effexor, even if it's only a half a day late!

I hope things get better and you find a new doctor soon.

Hi Becky,

No, nothing else meds wise have changed. I've been feeling the zapping since day one and the burning sensation as well. The shrink seems to think that it's just my anxiety manifesting itself. Oy! When I told her today that I was thinking of switching and that I was having worsening of the zaps she told me impossible - especially on the low dose I'm on. However, she has no idea how my system works and I'm extremely sensitive to meds.

Thanks for your reply. I'm not sure if I'll start back on the Paxil tomorrow or not, I was just scared that I could be effecting something in my body by skipping today's dose.

have a good night.

Hi Glen,

I wantd to throttle her over the phone. I was getting angry and she kept her voice very monotone, insisting that you can't get withdrawals on 7 days of a small dose. And that's why she gets paid $325 for 1 1/2hrs! I know for a fact that a friend of mine had the hardest time getting on the paxil the first few weeks, but she had a compassionate dr who told her to hang in there, that yes her symptoms were real and they would pass. I don't want to listen to crud about it's only my anxiety manifesting itself and that's why I'm feeling what I am. My symptoms aren't real. Infuriating. Let her feel what I am then tell me if they're real or not.

Thanks for letting me vent.

Take care and have a good night.

I personally do not think you would be having a withdrawl after such a short period.I know all about the personal horrors of Paxil withdrawal.I was forced to endure it.Anyway, that is besides the point. I get brain zaps occassionally. I used to a lot when I was married. I do have anxiety issues along with depression. At first the Dr. was saying it might be the meds.(I was taking Xanax) But as the yrs. went by, my meds. changed. So it could not be a certain med. I have done a bit of research on this and it seems that it has to do with stress/anxiety inside your brain.Once I was divorced, the zaps were almost non-existant.

Thank you for sharing your info. I do appreciate it. I've never experienced this type of anxiety before my divorce, having to move and the kids going off on their own. All at once. No wonder I'm a wreck.

Hope you are feeling better now.

Take care,
