First time mother with the baby blues.  I've suffered from mild depression in the past - just trying to figure out where the line is between baby blues and postpartum depression?  When do the hormones go back to normal?

Hi welcome to the forums!

I'm sorry to hear that you are having some emotional problems, I am no professional but from what I have heard with postpartum, if you are unsure you should seek professional help. Its not a big deal and very common, but the last thing you would want is for it to escalate and get out of control. It can effect women terribly and I think simply talking to a doctor about your worries here would be highly beneficial. Better safe than sorry when it comes to your health and the health of your family!

I'm glad you found Healing Well, its a fantastic place to come to talk. No matter what you decide remember we are here to support and help you. Just know you aren't alone.

From what I know, I don't think the baby blues last very long. Maybe a few weeks but postpartum can last up to a year or more. I think if your concerned and it's affecting your daily life, talk to your Dr. Hang in there I know how it feels to be a new mom. It's not easy and a big adjustment. Keep posting with us, we are here for you!

I believe Hope is correct as I remember them as baby blues and learned to expect that feeling but it did go away within a short time.

If you think your blues are lasting to long do talk with your physician.

Congrats on the new baby.

Hugs

I had mild depression before my daughter and went off Paxil (10 mgs) when we got prego.  AFter having her, I expected the blues...and honestly didn't want to admit that I felt depressed even more then before I was prego.  I toughed it out for 3 mths, until finally I broke down one day and just felt hopeless.  I went back on Paxil and I felt much better.  I strongly advise seeking your doctors advice about depression.  The fact that you came on here is wonderful in and of its self...I didn't even think to do that when I was depressed!  It's not worth it being unhappy when you have a precious infant...the time flies...enjoy it!
