I usually frequent the other boards, as I had a sub-total colectomy a year ago.  However, I have had depression since I was about 18.  I need some advice of where I can find a REALLY good psychiatrist and/or psychologist. I live in a small town in PA and no one around here is good.  I have been depending on my family doc for perscriptions, but sometimes I just don't think he is versed enough on them.
I have a history of eating disorders, have seen over 6 different psychologist.  Have been diagnosed with a mild form of Body Dysmporhia and depression.  I am constantly worried about my weight, though I weigh 101, I feel fat again.  I have been on Paxil and just called the doc last week...up 5 lbs in less then a month.  I had postpartum depression and thyroiditis with my daughter.  Though my thyroid blood tests are normal...I feel tired ALL the time.
I looked up some other forms of depression online and dysthymia and atypical depression describe me the most.  I tried Wellbutrin on Saturday...HATED IT!  And now my doc just called in Effexor XR.  I hope these meds work and don't make me feel so foggy brained (or gain weight).
If anyone could tell me what their experience with some antidepressants are, I am all open ears.

Hi lindsay,

I was on several anti depressants and ended up with effexor xr also. It works well for me. I have been on it for many years and it did not cause weight gain. I also take abilify and xanax.

I hope that the effexor works for you. It takes four to six weeks to get the full benefit. So be patient.

I tried Effexor and couldn't take it. It made me so on edge, I just wanted to kill some one. I'm on Cymbalta now (just started it on Friday), so far so good. I just have a fight on my hands with the insurance company not wanting to pay for it.

Hello Lindsay,

There are a number of possible side effects with Effexor XR, and weight gain is a rare side effect that has been documented in at least 1 percent of patients. There are some things that you can do if you experience weight gain while taking Effexor XR, such as eating a heart-healthy diet, exercising regularly, and limiting your alcohol intake. Your healthcare provider may be able to give you some other suggestions for dealing with any weight gain that may occur.

I am concerned re your weight and I see no one mentioned it........but 101 lbs is a very low weight.  I know you have a problem with weight and I hope you continue to get help with dealing with this disorder.

I hope the medication works for you.

Gentle Hugs

I'm a little north of you, I'm a little south of Hazleton.

Just wish there was a magic pill for all of us but we know there's not.
