Hey everyone,

I'm a teen, and lately it seems like everything in my life is going to crap. I just really feel hopeless about everything. I am quick to dismiss depression because my stepmom who ruined our family was depressed and I would never accept that as an excuse for the things she did, but I've since tried to forgive her and get along with her. I started feeling really low in February and I've felt pretty crapty almost all of the time since. I went to my doctor once, couldn't bring myself to talk about it with him, went a second time but felt stupid so I just gave more suitable reasons for being sad rather than I just can't help it. I'm afraid to get help because what if I don't actually have depression? How can I feel better ever?

Hello jpjpjp, welcome. I would strongly urge you to talk to you doctor. Depression is an illness. If you broke your leg, you would go to a doctor right? Same thing, don't be afraid. Doctors have screening tests for depression. I urge you to open up to your doctor, and please do not be ashamed.

Hi Jpjpjp,

Welcome to the depression forum. I agree with what Todd said, don't be ashamed to talk to your doctor. Depression is very serious and you should get a diagnosis from your doctor.

Keep trying and see your doctor. Post on here because we are here to support you.

Welcome to HealingWell and the Depression Forum. I am sorry you are feeling so down but please do make another appointment and talk with your physician.  There is no shame in having depression and there are many treatment modalities available.
 
Trust your physician as whatever you share with him is between the two of you and your physician is a great resource person to help you get past this depression and move forward into the light.
