I edited your post to bring it in line with rule #1. No discussion of any illegal activity or threats of violence. (ie. illicit drug use, including medical marijuana use, threats of suicide or self-injury, or threatened or intended physical harm). Discussions of suicide or self-harm that are deemed negative and therefore potentially injurious to others are also not permitted. --serafena

Hmmm.. I would think that a forum like this that is anonymous and meant to help folks would not seek to limit/censor discussion. If we are here to help, wouldn't we theoretically want to let folks open up about ANYTHING relating to their current troubles? Just a question.

FS, I do know what you mean, but I think you need to remember that many of us are sick, sad and struggling here. As Serafena says, we need to be careful that our posts do not injure others.

I'm not exactly sure what you wrote.... but if you are struggling with thoughts of death or self-harm, then I strongly encourage you to go to your nearest hospital or call a help-line so you can get the proper, qualified support you need. We are only amateurs here, and we can't talk to you face-to-face --- it's best to get real, qualified help, if that's what you need.

Good Morning,

Let me see if I can muddy the waters........... :)

Due to the anonymity of the site and the fact that this is a peer support group and not responsible for calling any authority on any member that threatens suicide, we strongly encourage members to call the hotline , 911, a family member or a friend, or to check themselves in to the local hospital emergency room.

Potential risks exist when sharing distressing material. We do edit graphic details re suicide and self harm as we have vulnerable members and members as young as 13 on the boards.

Discussions of suicide or self-harm that are deemed negative and therefore potentially injurious to others are also not permitted.
Can you mention a friend of yours died from suicide, yes.  But to go into indepth  detail on methods etc would be deemed  negative.
As we are a family based medical health forum we do strive to keep each forum safe for all members.

This is "just" a support forum, we do not do professional therapy here. When it comes to the point that we believe there is immediate danger to that person we want to send a united message "we want to help, but we are not physically there, please please go where you can get profession help immediately, we do not want you to die from sadness." This is what any concerned adult would say "hey I care about you and I do not have the wherewithal (meaning we are not physically there) to help you so I want to help you at least find someone who can help you." Like the ER.

Futhermore we have also had cases in the past where people have faked really bad situations on here. That is really bad for all the forum members. I know it sounds crazy, but any time that it becomes an immediate threat to anyone's wellbeing, all we can do is support and encourage them to get they help they need. We cannot do it for them. We delete because there comes a point in time that all we can say is get to the ER now! (especially when someone has a plan and has written us about it)  Sometimes sadness can be so overwhelming it that it can be like a sucking chest wound.  At that point in time it is not time to put bandaids on it by talking from afar, it is time to get them to an ER asap.

Plus due to the copycat phemomena, we do not want to have exact details on here. For example, when I was in the service one guy attempted, the next day two other guys tried the same thing and succeeded.
We really can do nothing here but support and when suicide stuff is involved it is time to get professional help, because it is beyond the scope of this forum.  It isn't that we do not care, it is just time to get real help for people, not just writings from afar.
