Hi "had-enough",

I don't have much in the way of good advice for you. Keep hanging in there. I don't know how long you've been on the anti-depressants, but they usually take 6-8 weeks to really start working.

What I do know is that it does get better. I was super, super depressed 14 months ago. I got on hormones & started really working hard at changing my thoughts. I don't tolerate anti-depressants & the counselor I was seeing wasn't really working out for me. I don't know if you are religious, but if you are maybe a leader at your place of worship could be helpful to you & give support more in keeping with your values. If not, maybe you just need to try a different counselor.

I do try to tell anyone I meet to get blood work done to make sure that there aren't any issues going on with hormones or such. That was a big piece of it for me & more & more people that I meet have similar issues. I went on birth control pills to bring my hormones under control. Right now my thyroid is out of whack & I am trying to work it out with my insurance so I can get the medication to fix my thyroid which is supposed to help with depression as well. Beyond that, it is definitely important to be getting enough sleep. I know I don't do well with anything when I'm sleep deprived. My neurologist said that probably half of depression cases are caused/correlated with insomnia or sleep disorders. I know that's true with a lot of people, but I'm not sure about the numbers. If that's the case, maybe your psych or PCP or someone can add something for sleep to your regimen to help get you feeling better sooner.

Hang in there & keep posting. You can't post any specifics about hurting yourself, but you definitely can come here to talk about your problems. I think there are a lot of great people here. I know they have really helped me & hopefully you will feel supported as well.

take care,
frances

Heeja Enough,

Nice to meet ya! Yea, depression can be a real pain in the ... It can take away all hope of a better day, a better world, a better life. But that is only when the depression is at it strongest. Yet hope is just the thing that can pull you out. Trust me, though everything seems crapty at the moment, there will be times, situations, things you enjoy. Even for a second. And if you are able to consciously experience that second, you are able to know how it can be. If one second can be good, why not two seconds? Why can't there be a minute of that feeling? Hours, months, years? It is just a matter of training, as you would for a marathon or so. You start with one step, and after a lot of practise you will be able to take thousands of steps right after each other, without too much effort.

And what Frances already mentioned, it can be hormone based. At least, a part of it. Teenagers, post-pregnant, menopause, it all can be of great influence. Have you tried changing meds?

If you want, you can share everything you like here. Sharing can be a great help. You can get things a bit more in line, and maybe someone else can give you just that little bit of love, or an eyeopener, that will make things just a bit easier.

Thanks for sharing, and all the very best!

Erik
