Hi.
I am new to this forum but have been skulking around, reading the posts for quite some time. You all seem like caring people.
I was wondering if anyone has tried cognitive behavioral therapy ? I was hospitalized in 2002 for major depression and have since been diagnosed with dysthymia. My psychiatrist suggested CBT but I haven't looked into it yet. Any opinions about this ? Thanks.

Hello and welcome to HealingWell.  We have many members that have used and continue to use CBT. I can only think of a few that did not like it but I sense they were not ready at the time to give therapy the chance it deserves. JMHO  :-)

It does take hard work but the outcome is almost always good.

I sure hope it works out well for you.

Wishing you the best,

Kitt

Hi Kitt.
Thanks for the welcome and for your reply about CBT. If other people have had good experiences with it, then perhaps it is time for me to try it.
Take care.

Hi Skylardaisy,

I might suggest a book on cbt to go along with your therapy. It is called Feeling Good by Dr Burns. Or you can find it under The New Mood Therapy.

I have used cbt for years and it really does help a lot. I hope that it helps you too.

Keep posting and let us know how you are doing.

Hugs, Karen
