Hi, I'm a newbie whose pulling her hair out over a spouse.  My DH has dealt with bouts of depression most of his adult life.  Last October, he was fired from his job, which set of another episode.  He switched PCP and basically told the MD what he wanted to be on (Paxil) and the dosage.  He took it for three days and stopped because he said the side effects were worse than the depression.  Bless his heart, he did manage to land a great job in another state.  So, trying to be supportive, we sold our house and moved.  My job is portable so I thought it would be a good show of support.  Less than three months into the job, he has another depressive episode and quits his job last week.  He says his boss was horrible and he was going to get fired, which I don't believe.  I think that was the depression talking.  Now we're in a strange state, with no friends, no family, no house, and one paycheck.  Our finances are shot due to the prior months of unemployment.  I got him back to a MD in the new state who put him back on Paxil but a differnt dose than the last one.  DH refused counseling.  He says he knows all the coping techniques.  Still he sleeps 14 hours a day, yells at the kids and has no interest in anyone or anything.  I'm mad and hurt at the situation we find ourselves in and don't know how much longer I can keep being supportive.

Hello Mountaintop,

Welcome to HealingWell. I am so happy you have joined us. I am sorry about your situation. I do think that your husband does need some counseling, even though he says he knows all the coping skills that he needs to fight depression. It looks like it is taking over.

Hopefully his doctor can persuade him to go to counseling. And I hope that the medication works for him this time. Do you think he started out with a high dose last time to cause the side effects? There are many other anti depressants out there if this doesn't work.

Best wishes to you for a wonderful day. Keep posting as we are all here to support you.

Hugs, Karen

Well now I need some help. My 83 year old mother was just admitted to the hospital with heart and renal failure. Not sure if she can pull through . Honestly, my cup is not just running over, its flooded the floor.
