How can you tell when you are depressed??? I don't know. I mean, I've been to counseling, etc. And my last counselor wanted to have me hospitalised, but my mom wouldn't let them. I'm not even sure if I didn't want to go. To get away from everything. cry

Hi Mousegirl,

WElcome to the depression forum. I guess if you are going to counseling, that shows that something is wrong, especially if they wanted to hospitalize you.

Depression gives you a feeling of sadness, and nothingness. You cry often over nothing. Also a lack of energy. I have been fighting depression for probably over 30 years. I had it as a teen. But didn't go on medications for years. Dealt with it through counseling and reading books. REad posts, read books. That is a sure way of learning about depression.

I hope that you feel better soon. Keep us posted on how you are doing.

Best wishes,

Hugs, Karen

Mousegirl, hang in there. Being a teenager with depression is tough. When you get upset, try writing your thoughts and feelings in a journal- tell your counsellor exactly what you are feeling. I will post some websites here that you can have a look at that might help you out also:

All the best, hang in there- it does get better

I haven't checked out the sites yet but I plan on it. It was pretty bad yesterday, plus my dad lost his job. =[ Lots of stress.

Mousegirl,

Try to take this one day at a time. As Jamie said, getting out in the sunshine is good. If you are having any. It has been gloomy here for weeks. I take vitamin D3 to help me when it is like this. You might wnat to try that.

Have you ever tried meditation? It helps me go to sleep at night, and if I wake up and can't go back to sleep, I do it again. You should check it out, it really relaxes you.

It takes practice. But realize when you are practicing it, you are actually doing it. And it gets easier as time goes on.

It puts you in a wonderful place where you are aware of things that you didn't pay attention to before. Good things.

I will help you with it if you want. Just let me know.
