My family doctor started me on Cipralex about 3 weeks ago and the side effects have been brutal.

For some backround information i suffer from Bi-polar depression, Psychzoid personality disorder, general anxiety and avoident personality disorder. I've had my depression since my early teens and my anxiety was present as early as 7 years old. As a teenager i was put on paxil and 6 weeks later was pulled off the drug as a result of a suicide attempt.

Cipralex calms my anxiety however ive noticed that my depression is more sever. my sleeping pattern is speratic. some days ill sleep 15 hours some i wont sleep at all and im notice now that my suicidle thoughts are becomming present again with minor attempts at harming myself.. ive spoken to my family doctor about this and he did not take me off the medication just lowered my dose and gave me another medication to try and balance me out...

Im scared that taking this new drug with what im on right now will only intensify the feelings im already experiancing... is there any way to lower the anxiety of taking a new medication with the effects im having on my current meds

hi listare. welcome to the forum. i am jamie, male, 37. i live major depression-endogenous and severe borderline personality disorder. so i understand all of what you are saying. need to give the new medication some time. to lessen your anxiety i would suggest that you try to focus your thoughts. whatever works for you. also keep in contact with your doc. maybe a slight increase in your ad meds may be warranted. mindfulness practice is excellent, as well as DBT. Dialetical behaviour therapy. dbt is used here in australia for the treatment of severe/borderline personality disorders. also i feel it would be useful to you with the aviodant type. my suggestion would be is to refered to a psychiatrist who is well versed in personality disorders and one that practices dbt and or CAT-Congnitive anylitical therapy. my compassion to you. if you are at risk, with any self harm i would suggest that you intervene with seeking appropriate assistance. regards. jamie. ps, check out the forum rules per self harm, etc. thanks. remember that we are here for you. i admire your courage in posting, keep well and safe also.

Hi Listare,

I run the bipolar forum here on HealingWell. It sounds like the new med has caused you to cycle again. What is the new medication? Are you on a mood stabilizer or anti-depressant with Cipralex? Nonetheless, you need to give your doc a call because you're having strong symptoms that you have relief from.

Try to remember that the other classes of drugs don't work instantly, and need some time to build up in your system.

Good luck,
serafena
