Random question...looking back on the choices you've made in your life, can you say that the mistakes made you into the person you are today? Did "taking a detour" in life help you build your character, compassion, etc.? I am trying to put a positive spin on turning down a great offer that I now wish I would have accepted, had I had all the information about it that I know now. I thought I was making a pretty good decision with where I decided to go to grad school but I've been severely depressed since August and I am worried that whether I decide to stay for another year or leave will be yet another mistake. I wish I wasn't such a sensitive person and could adapt better but my circumstances are very unique about why I feel like I don't fit in here. I'm worried that whether I leave or stay, people will judge me. When do you decide to tough it out and when do you decide that the situation you're in is just too mentally, emotionally, and physically unhealthy?

Hi Nightwish,

That is a tough question. I think it all depends on the individual. If you are not happy or comfortable, I would say change it. I really don't think that there is any right or wrong here, just what you prefer. So go with your gut feeling and hope for the best.

Best wishes to you and I hope that this has helped some.

Hugs, Karen

There will always be decisions that we wish we could do over again. And then there are those that we knew that when given the chance, we'd still do the same thing. But that is the magic of living. Just make sure that whatever you decide on, you won't regret it. If you put it to that kind of test, you often find the right answer.

Hi SweetAbby,

I haven't seen you post on the depression forum before so I would like to welcome you to the forum. You have come to a good place where everybody is so kind and caring. I think you will like it here.

Keep posting and let us know how you are doing. You are welcome to start an introductory thread about yourself if you would like to. We could all get to know you better that way. But if you prefer not to, that is okay too. Just know that we all care about you here.

Hugs, Karen

Thanks for the advice. Just really feeling bad about myself and I'm sick again. I thought I was depressed before but now I understand what true depression is. Hang in there to everyone out there. I never knew it could feel this bad. I'm at the point where I am skipping classes now and not doing my work. Dreams are flying right out the window. If I go somewhere else, it will be two more years of school but I would have the spring and summer off so maybe it would be OK.

i agree with karen, gut instincts. all decisions are that, including mistakes, gut instincts, receiving advice and using acquired knowledge. the thing to remember is that our paths are just that. we move between them, cross them, go back-but we are ever moving forward on our path. the end of my path.............well for me it is just the beginning. jamie. all the best on your journey, me i am alike frodo in the lord of the rings!! i do make it and in the end go beyond!!! dream big. love to ya.
