Due to continuning severe debilitating back pain  today i had seven injections into my spine in a bid to relieve some of the apin and give me the ability to walk again but only time will tell .At the moment it has intensified the pain ten fold .On the 5th of february i`m booked in to have an abdominal mass removed more worry .The dr is concerned as to my mental state he should be on my side of the fence and see first hand how i`m feeling .Meds are not the answer it only covers the symptoms and only some of the it does not remove the cause . One thing i`m dreading like the last surgery i had three nurses hold me down while someone held the mask on my face .Due to abuse as a child it`s one thing that really freaks me out so bad .they tell me there is no other way ..My surgeon is so lovely but it`s the anesethist that controls the anesthetic .Just not looling forward to it one bit .
I have even been contemplating not having the surgery but i want to be here for the birth of my first grandchild so know it has to be done .sad

a tough one. is there anything that you can do to calm yourself before surgery? something soothing. maybe some meditation might help? are you allowed a sedative before the mask is put on? trying to help. i have some surgery myself soon. i too am not looking forward to it. with compassion, jamie.

Hi Snowflake,

More surgery, I am so sorry.  But this is really important to get through.  Hopefully like Jamie says, they can give you something to relax you before they put the mask on.  Try not to worry aobut it too much.  Take it with stride, once the mask is on, you are out like a light.  You will get through this.  It is an important surgery Snowflake.  And you will be there for the grandbaby.

Know that we are here for you and support your every move.  Come to us when you need to.  We all really care about you.

With this being said, I hope that you have a great day.  How are the Joeys?  I understand that you are doing that again.

Take care my friend.

Jamie i will ask the anesthetist when i see them they use to knock me out first but in sydney they didnt it was just so horrific i really didn`t like that drs attitude one bit she even took skin off the inside if my mouth when she put the tube in i had a dreadful mouth for weeks as it all ulcerated as a result due to a disease i have in my mouth ,i will never have her again .I hope the dr out here is more understanding than what she was ,I`m paying for it so i want what helps me not them .
Karen i know i want to be here for the baby and my daughter they are just so important to me and my state of mental health ,i really want to be around .I have slept for a couple of hours but the pain in my back is just so great and i can`t take more morphine for many hours .I will ring my dr later this morning as at 2 am i was not going to disturb him he needs his sleep more than i do .
I did have a joey i had him since early november but in the end it was just too hard to get down to feed him so i gave him to the lady who will look after him for the remainder of his life he is in great hands .I`m hoping that after the surgery and if my back improves i will go back to looking after them again .Will just have to see how it all goes .

Most hospitals and anesthesiologists, at least in the US, induce anesthesia with IV medications. Masks are generally only used for very brief procedures on young children. You should have an opportunity to talk to the anesthesiologist before the procedure; ask him/her to be induced this way.

If it's an oxygen mask that's the problem after surgery, ask for a cannula, which is the two prongs that fit in your nostrils.

Good luck, and remember there's no reason for you to be terrorized that way!

Judy i have had many surgerys for cancer and this was the first and only time they used the mas to put me to sleep the last surgery was lengthy so was not a case of a short surgery usually it`s done with the injection to the hand but as i said this was done away from where i usually have surgery a different dr and her different technique she was not interested in changing eventhough i stressed to her how it effects me instead she had three nurses hole me down and two others holding the mask over my face it was just so traumatic .i ended in a mental clinic for three months as a result i will never go through that again .I`m hoping the next surgery the dr will listen to my concerns and treat me approperately.

This past week i have had seven injections into my spine in a bid to reieve some of the pain one side has been recieptive but the left side is still causing a fair bit of pain .I`m just so over all of this .Tomorrow i`m on the road again having to take the family car away to be fixed and then travel four hours back this way on saturday to pick up my son as it`s time for his cancer check ( no one escapes them now ) and have to turn around and take him back willl only be home two days and then it`s into hospital .I`s just so exhausted and i have not begun .Does anyone want to trade places with me for a few years so that i can just sit back and have a break .To make matters worse the temperature out here has been horrid to say the least 48yesterday and it`s still not the hottest part of the year for us yet .
I really wanted to visit with my psychologist before surgery but there is no chance i just am not in one place long enough to do anything .

Hi Snowflake,

I hope that the injections are helping you. It seems like you are going through so much right now. And have been. I guess this doens't give you much time to think. All the driving, I hope that you have air conditioner in your vehicle.

Know that we are all here thinking about you through this difficult time. And we are here to support you.

Best wishes my friend,

Hugs, Karen

Am getting my car fixed tomorrow so am going to the movies with the temperature so hot the picture theatre is about the coolest place i can think of .

A very quick update as i have to prepare for my next adventure the removal of the mass on friday .Hubby and i will go down tomorrow so it will not be a middle of the night run to get to the hospital in the early hours of the morning to be prepared for suregery .
As for the injections in my spine they were not as successful as we had hoped infact the dr this morning has ordered for them to be repeated next wednesdayagain he told me i need to find some relief .so with surgery this friday and then the injections wednesday one way or the other i`m going to have more pain .
As it is today i have so much pain with my back and the lack of sleep due to pain and stress has sent me round the bend i`m not siure what i`m doing or what i`m even supposed to do .
I will endevour to let you know how things go in given time .
Thank you all for your help, encouragement and support it has been greatly appreciated .

Snowflake,

Thanks for posting, I hope that the surgery goes well. You have been through so much in this past year. I hope that things get better for you.

How is the family doing? How is your daughter? And the grand baby? I hope things are going good in that aspect.

Is is still hot down there? It is cold here but warming up a little. We still have a lot of snow. Wish I could send you some to cool you down. But it would melt before it got there. lol...

I hope that you are feeling better soon. I hope that the injections help this time around.

Keep us posted.

Maybe I can catch you on facebook and we can chat. That would be cool.

Hugs, Karen

Just a quick update as i cant sit here for too much longer .Surgery was a lot more complicated than first thought and too so much longer in theatre than expected .I was due to go home that after noon but due to severe pain they had to keep me i just could not bear it .At one stage i was taken back into recovery for more pain relief and had to go back on the monitors before they would accecpt me back upstairs in the ward ..
I allowed out the following day but had to stay in town for a few days . Wednesday i had to have the injections in my spine again .there has been so much going on i`m worn out ,But just what was involved in the surgery has taken a toll on me on the inside i can`t talk to anyone here about as my family would not understand how it`s effecting me .will just keep it to myself atm and see how i go .I just dont even want to talk to my dr about it .

Jamiee having the second lot of needles was definately not like the first lot atleast they were tollerably .the second ones had to be put in at an odd angle and that was just so painful .But when they injected the medication in the pain was out of this world and as a result i was not allowed to go home for three hours as i needed to be monitered .Good thing it eventually settled down and so far pain is minimal but in saying that i have not done anything since i returned home except for one day doing some washing but that ended in disaster and then after talking to my surgeon a couple of days later he told me i was to do nothing for six weeks and definately no lifting ( i only wished he had told me that when i was in hospital ) but here it is now three weeks since surgery my wounds have finally decided to heal which is a plus .
The pathology on the tumors was great so even better .I have had problems witht he water works department with an infection and now the dr has prescribed some new medication in a hope to stop some of the pain and frequent trips to the bathroom at night ( before surgery i never had to go during the night) now it can be up to five times each night just to relieve pain .
I`m bck seeing the psychologist again she rang the other day my fourty minute session turned out to be two hours long i was just so drained but felt a little better a few days after just from taking to her .I have ongoing problems that will take years if ever to fix there is always something coming up when you think things could not get any worse sure enough there is something else there ready to take it`s place .

Hi Snowflake,

Sorry to hear that things are hard right now. But happy to hear that you have a psychologist coming to your home to see you. And hearing that some things are getting better really makes me happy.

I am glad that you gave us an update. Keep up the good work. You have been through a lot and hopefully things will be looking up for you.

How are your children? How is the grandbaby coming along? Are you still thinking about baby setting? Let us know what is up.

Hugs, Karen

Hi , Just a very quick note as tonight i feel awful .I was in so much pain with my face this afternoon i took some morphine and it has made me so sick .
I have seen both the gynocologist and the oncologist this week and tonight i just feel so drained .My only wish is that one day things would go ok for me but as it is atm it`s not to be .
Following the surgery to remove the abdominal masses i now have problems with my bladder .The gynocologist said he will give me a month on this current treatment but looks as though i need to see a urologist to find out whats happened .The problem is it takes me ten minutes at the minium to pass urine and thats on a good time .
After having a medical which involved many blood tests things are not good aparently my liver has packed it in and my iron levels are so low i need to go into hospital next week to have an infusion of iron ,vit B12 injections ,folic acid,Vit B6 and so many other things the list just goes on and on .I`m just so tired of all of this .I also need to have more injections into my spine .I`m so depressed and with the problems with my daughter i just can`t take much more of this .where does it all end .
