I have suffered with depression all of my life. Sometimes have been very bleak. Right now I just feel like I'm starting to sink back into that 'place' again. I know that I am not involved in life enough, have no hobbies that I care too much about. I am looking for ways to reconnect with people again. In the past I have been VERY involved with my kids education and volunteering with schools and such. My oldest is a senior in high school now and I just don't have the interest in volunteering at the schools anymore. I think in some ways that it just makes me feel old and like my life is already over. I wish that I were involved in a church that I like, but I haven't found one that really fits for me. Maybe that is an excuse.
I would love any ideas.

Thanks!
Stacey

Hi Stacey,

I am so glad that you have posted. I hope that you can find some interests outside of the home to make you feel better. I hope that you find a church that you will like to attend.

Coming here is a good thing. Everybody is so understanding and compassionate. Have you thought about counseling? That has really helped me. I have been going for years and it is my lifeline. I hope that you consider it.

Try going out for walks too. I find I see people on walks, have short conversations and usually feel better. I take my dogs out too so that is good for them.

I hope that you start to feel better soon.

Hugs, Karen

Thank you Karen!

I am in counseling. I have a great therapist, but there are things I need to do for myself. At my last session we talked about me trying to figure out how I could find something that might give me more of a sense of purpose.

I don't want to give the wrong impression. I have been in much worse shape. I am just afraid of going back there.

I had surgery not too long ago and don't feel like I have the strength for a walk just yet, but I will keep it in mind. My husband goes every evening.

Thank you for your kind thoughts Karen. It means a lot.

It does sound like you have a good therapist. I missed my last appointment but will be going next month. I miss talking to her. Mine is really good too. It really makes a difference.

I am glad that you are looking for something to give you a sense of purpose. That is a good thing to do. It really makes our lives seem so much more significant. And it boosts the self esteem.

I hope that you find what you are looking for. Think about the things that you like to do. Maybe you could pick up a hobby or something that you like. Or go for something more life changing. There are no limits! I think we can all do what we put our minds to.

Best wishes, have a wonderful weekend. Maybe I will catch you in chat tonight.

Hugs, Karen

Thanks Karen! I appreciate the kind words. I am going to work on getting out there. Today is better. It is amazing how the sun can make you feel so much better. Most of the country doesn't have it right now, but we have it - today only!
You have a nice weekend too! Meant to get back on for chat last night, but time passed.
Thanks
Stacey

hi stacey, jamie here.

walking is good. helps you de-clutter the mind. writing your feelings down is also very theraputic. i play solitare on my computer when i need to deviate my mind as well. good on you for seeking support, karen is right with counselling. keep well and know that we care, jamie.
